I thought anodised stuff was bad..

Browing YouTube, I came across this. Why would anyone look at that and think "Yeah, that's what my bike's missing, an exhaust that looks like a gun."

So let's see it, what's the naffest modification you've ever seen? (Pictures prefered)

I've seen the tailgunner zorst on a custom this year at Bulldog, it actually looked really good.

On a sports bike though, they are shit.

Worse mods are clearly the red screens, they look awful.

Saw one of those on a episode of American Chopper ages ago. As said above - looks better on custom/chopper type thing. Looks crap on anything else.

Carbon Replacement Thumbs Down - where it's going to make no discernible difference to the ride and the money could have been spent on a lot more fun things.

Infact, any modification that isn't there to be 'useful' - so 99% off all such things done. And, yes, I am guilty of doing/wanting various things for purely tart factor myself too.

People tend to overdo the carbon and decals..Less is more.
Daft question maybe, but why is carbon fibre always black, can't they paint it.

I'm considering painting my wheels white or green, instead of oxidised aluminium grey, slightly tarty Thumbs Up

Most other mods are functional though Thumbs Up

Performance exhausts - I think you meant 'loud exhausts' Smile.
However, I have recently found that while I'm not so sure about one on a fun road bike, on a commuting bike it's definitely useful for waking up the other dozy road users Smile. (I should point out I've actually only ever bought one loud exhaust and that was a direct replacement (same model) for the system on my road bike at the time.)
I do actually fancy an akrapovic for my KTM690, more because it saves 5kg, which is quite a bit when you have to pick it up again. Costs too much to consider at the mo, however.

Anyway, unless you've got a litre sports bike, it seems a bit of a waste 'tuning' a smaller bike when you could just buy the faster bike in the first place. And, similarly, I'm not sure I'd spend the sort of money needed on a litre bike to get the power up unless we're talking serious increases in power; ie getting a 'charger of some kind.

yeah i was just saying in general about tuning though i know guys who tuned up like busa's and stuff and they now touch just under 280-290 rather than the stock limited 186 i think they are restricted to

Laughing - I'll think you'll find that goes a little beyond 'tuning', unless they've just tuned the speedo Smile.
To get those speeds, I presume they've got an enclosed stream lined design - as I believe the top 'open wheel' motorcycle world record is 265mph. I'd expect that record-bike was making around 500hp or a bit more, as well as some aerodynamic improvements. On motorbikes you start to need massively more power for every extra 1mph faster at these kinds of speeds.

oh yeah far beyond it but the world speed record is by a busa on the salt flats at 316 mph i think that was some rocket

haha looks funny looks like the front of a10 warhog lol why would you have it as a mod i would expect it from typical scoota chav riders but not from someone with a propper bike Confused Thumbs Down

worst i have seen mod in general is when people get shit cars and stick massive spoilers on them and nothing else wtf

but for bikes it was a guy i knew who had a bandit 6 and stuck stickers of women over it like the ones u'd get out of a copy of max power etc as a freebie Thumbs Down

One of my friends was terrible for buying carbon replacements, even down to carbon airboxes. Each piece saved a little bit of weigh, by itself, made no different, but he saved kilos on the weigh.

Not sure what that is.
The current piston engined world speed record for bikes is held by this:
https://image.automotive.com/f/newsandupdates/10457263+pheader/122_0809_01_z+top_1_oil_fim_world_record+ack_attack_streamliner.jpg
Any piston engined bike, we can presume, that does much over 265mph, is going to have to look a lot more like that, rather than something you would go to the shops on.
The one I mentioned that holds the world speed record looks a bit more like a normal Hayabusa I believe.

Chriss: But even, say, 10kg... does it make more than the smallest noticable difference on the road? Racing where a few tenths of a second is a massive difference, maybe... but the majority of the time, going faster can be easily achieved with sticky rubber and turning your throttle hand more Smile.
If I wanted to save some decent weight, think first thing I'd do is get an aluminium single seat subframe welded up - big difference there for a total cost of under £200 including a race seat unit. Plenty of other pieces you can remove completely to save weight that don't cost anything to take off Smile.
