I found oil in my air box yesterday ( i ride a hornet 600 04 model), so i cleaned it out with a cloth (as much as i could) then emptied some oil out of my engine as there was a little too much in.
What damage has or could this have caused to my bike?
Im all worried now that the bike is going to get problems.
Cheers.

What type of air filter do you have, is it a sponge type, or the paper type?
Reason i'm asking is because the NSR has a sponge type filter, and when you clean it, you have to soak it in oil before you put it back in. Obviously you would squeeze out the excess first, otherwise you would choke the engine.
How much oil was in your airbox?

Don't worry too much about it. That's where your crank breather empties, and since you overfilled it with oil, it blew the excess out of the crank breather.

Just double check you don't get more.

There wasnt alot, it was around and dripping down the sides of the box, but no puddles inside it. Its a cylinder shape, not sponge.
My mate said its just the breather hose putting it in there, will i need to clean out the breather hose?
cheers.

No, it is perfectly normal for all this to be happening.

Its just oil 'mist' collecting over time and forming into a smear layer. Even with 100% correct oil level, it will happen!! If yours was a smidge over then its very unlikely any harm will have been done past or long term.

Seriously, don't worry about it.

A smidge. . . it was above the top line of the dipstick... just before it rounds off.

When you measure the level you're not screwing the dipstick in are you?
