My instructor told me to sing a really basic song, like humpty dumpty or something. When you get to the end, check the following 4 things:

- Dashboard (turn signals, speed etc)
- Distance to car in front
- Road position
- Mirrors

...then start singing again. It just forces you to check the essentials every 20 seconds or so. Worked a treat. Nothing worse than riding perfectly and failing because you rode past a junction with your indicators on... well, except being killed because you rode past a junction with your indicators on I suppose.

Just keep loose and be cool. Try and remember that the examiner isn't there to give you a hard time, he's a biker too and he just wants to make sure you're safe to be out there. And don't forget that even if you fuck something up it's not the end of the world. It's in the past so don't let it haunt you.

First round-about out of the test center I spent too long doing a life saver to make a point and had a little wobble coming off the round-about. Afterwards he pointed it out to me but said that as I clearly showed good control on the rest of the ride he wasn't going to mark me down for it.

Top tips:
    1. Sell yourself to the examiner with big life savers and obvious mirror checks
    2. Its not a navigation exam, if your in the wrong lane just stick with it rather than do something dangerous and fail
    3. It's better to get a minor for hesitation than a major for pulling out when its not safe
    4. Ride for yourself, don't worry about finding gaps big enough for both of you and don't slow down to let him catch up
    5. He'll ask you to stop several times during the test, it doesn't mean you're doing something wrong
    6. When he asks you to stop don't panic and remember the highway code, unless he specifies to ignore yellow lines
    7. You haven't got anywhere to go, the sole objective is to pass your test so take your time and play it cool

Congratulations on passing. My first big bike was a bandit 400 (jap spec). Loved every minute of it Smile That was until i stacked it Sad

On that note, if you need anything (front end + engine) then let me know Wink Laughing

All its coolant and oil? Never heard of a problem like that on the bandit 4's before Shocked

Did it dump ALL its oil? Did you ride it for long after it dumped its oil?

Really unsure how much the engines are worth (i'll have an oogle on the gay of E), can't remember how many miles its got on it (will check tomorrow after work).

It does have 2 snapped exhaust studs, but if you didn't ride yours for long you could use your cylinder block (provided its the same engine) or i could try and drill them out (not attempted to do so yet).

Its off a '90 bandit 4, not the VVT model (they were around 92/93 if i remember rightly).

I'm assuming your restricted, i got a full set of FI restrictors aswell, although i'm guessing you may already have them.

Well it didn't dump it all on the floor but it was all gone and oil was dripping from the rocker cover. I just had a full service 2 weeks ago and that cost £180!! Maby they didnt do something correctly. My engine is the one with the red rocker cover I think. If you can let me know a price and how many miles your engine has is it a runner ? Cheers Phil
