suggest me a supermoto/enduro/crosser

thats whats on the cards for the R6, and i wouldnt mind a crosser. theres a few ebay ones, like a KTM400 and a 560 or something, both for £800.

was tempted by an XL600R too, and an XR400 that needs a top end rebuild...

anything else i should know about? im clueless when it comes to crossers.

or any offers of bikes.

if it's the xl600r on ebay for 750 BIN, don't.. I viewed it on wednesday, it is a shed. Speedo doesnt work, the forks are bent and it won't do more than 45 ish on standard gearing as well as numerous other things such as brakes which only work according to the owner 'stop like a brick wall when warmed up'

Xt600s are good, generally most of the older 600s are alright, as long as they are in mechanical nick. The cosmetics obviously are going to be shagged.

Klx650s are supposed to be good, but bear in mind most of the older 4t are going to be heavy and underpowered.

Not had much experience with bigger trailies but I did just get a KLX650C1 about a month or so ago.

It's standard gearing just now and pulls great to about 90mph, tops out at 105mph (indicated). I feel, personally it's a little underpowered considering it's capacity so I'm going to go one down on the front and one up on the rear (only sprockets i can find, wemoto) and see how that goes. Wheel will come up with power in 1st, nearly 2nd, clutch up in 2nd easy.. i'm no good at wheelies so I'm guessing you'll find it easier.

It's a bit heavy but not that bad in reality (As long as you don't get it stuck!) and people always seem surprised when they find out it's a 650 they tend to think it's smaller?!

Starts on the button and runs all day without any problem. Brakes are ok, enough bite to do stoppies on demand. Mechanically it looks simple. Loads of spares on Ebay. Exhaust gets hot and I'm on my 3rd one as it's eaten one, and the other was too loud.

Hard to find good proper knobblies though as the rear is a 17" but there are road legal "knobblies" in the right size which should do the trick (MT21's, D606's, etc)..

Tank range, well I dunno to be honest, I do roughly 90 miles between fill ups but haven't reached reserve yet so who knows.. costs roughly £9 for those 90 miles at £1.04 a litre (you do the math).

I'd say it's a tad too big if you plan on getting into really technical stuff or doing MX to any level but I think it'd be great for green-laning, etc with a wee gearing change the standard gearing leaves me somewhere between 1st & 2nd for the slower stuff, can be annoying.

If you have a bike for the road and plan on using the traily almost exclusively for off-road then I'd opt for a smaller bike, 250, 350 or summit.

I suggest you search/read through some posts in this forum - There's plenty of info on this subject.

I doubt any of the bikes you suggested are crossers and there's a massive variation between the bikes you have mentioned.

Work out what you want to do with an off-road bike; motocross, enduro, trails, street use. There's a massive difference in the bikes on offer, the equivalent of a range from a GP bike to a CB500.

XR250 project bike

'94 Jap import, electric start, currently SORN, tyres and c&s have got plenty of life left in them, it needs the RHS fork seal replacing, engine needs spark plug thread repairing and I expect the insides of the engine will need cleaning up from water damage. has rear luggage rack, tank is dented on RHS.

Got a box of spares, chain & sprockets, fork seals, think there's some levers, original footpegs cos it's got better ones fitted, and various other spares.

It has been used offroad, which is how things like this have happened to it. About an hour after that photo was taken the bike was running again. Water damage that I think it'll have at the moment is cos the spark plug thread is fucked so isn't water proof. The bike has been sat since the end of 2007.

Jap import so parts are mostly the same as the UK version, some things are a bit different, the petrol tank is the only thing I've found to be completely different to the UK version.

Errr maybe @ seeing if the barrel's fucked, but I would guess there will be damage of some degree cos when the spark plug thread problems were first noticed was when offroading and it had been raining so water was getting in around the spark plug and causing the engine to stall. It's been rained on vaguelly recently cos when doing stuff my garage and moving the xr outside to make space, it's ended up being rained on.

Have got the v5 and other paperwork. bloke i bought it from had owned it since it was imported and he had just used it as a commuter bike.

I see no problem with this being an advert thread

I can safely say it doesn't fire up. When the spark plug thread is repaired it should.

Making it work again is the 'project' part, it comes with a haynes manual.

is that good for what it is? Mot till xmas and tax for a month or so.

Just a case of getting rid of the R6 so i can buy it.

Never had a shot of a DR350 but had a DR650 years ago. Great bike, plenty of power and youcan pick them up for less than a grand. My mate sold his minted one for £850. Remember there are kick start only DR650`s and later ones are electric.

for £800 i think ill be pretty happy with it.

I don't know about that age, but from around 98 you can just slot supermoto wheels in, with a caliper bracket for the bigger front disc.

There is a bit of variation, but between my (now ex) Hussy, CCM, KTM EXC and KTM LC4 most of the wheels are interchangeable.

The headlight would look half decent if it was white. Purple seat looks dreadful but that would be an easy fix (Got some spare seat vinyl if you want it). Apart from that it seems like a good buy.
