Ok here's the story I'm thinking about part exxing the srad and going for something a bit newer a bit faster etc, yet amongst all the threads on bcf about litre bikes being "different" I feel like this what I'm going to go for.

I had a look around a few bike shops today and almost instantly fell in love with a fireblade which is weird because I don't normally like hondas but there was also a 2001 gixer thou, now whilst I was tempted to do a swap there and then I brought myself to it and decided to have a look at weatherleys where I bought my srad and they have a unclean but in good nick R1 I think it was 2000. But that was buy it as you see it and it was fuckng dirty and yet for very similar price the blade and gixer where mint!

At the lower budget range there was a black and grey zx9r which I must admit did look nice yet also looked fairly dated compared to the other 3.

Now the killer question and this is the biggie out the 3 which is likely to be best overall bike bearing in mind my ride to work is by a racetrack.

Obviously I want speed and handling but I also want comfort(ish I no sportsbike are not are as comfy as a goldwing) but you no what I mean.

Or would I be better of sticking with srad for a few years and then buying a 05+ in like 2 years?

Test ride maybe?

My money would probably be on an early R1, if I were in the market.

Is that why they are so seemingly overpriced ?

Depends what you want, I test rode a 2k ZX9R when I had a 96 Blade and the bikes felt identical, which is how far behind Kwak were then.

Which Blade is it? If it's the 929 then it's slightly behind the R1 in terms of power, about the same on handling and better build quality. If it's the RRW/RRX it's slower than the 929 but way more comfortable.

I'd always go for the Blade from that era but I love Blades, having said that I have a Fazer Thou which uses the R1 engines, albeit slightly detuned, and it is a good engine.

Ride them all, that;s the only way to know.

Cheers

The blade 929 is an excellent bike, and my dad had the k2 gixxer for a couple of years before trading it in for a k5, and said there isn't a lot of difference between the two looks aside.

Have you considered a thunderace? Bulletproof, cheap, look okay and have a powerful lump in them. They are also a bit more comfortable?

If you wait 2 years, the 05 bike will be a similar age to the ones you are looking at now i.e. 7 - 8 years old, so you will be in exactly the same position. The SRAD will however be worth less.

As to which will be best overall, thats a million dollar question. They will all outride you and the roads you will use them on to get to work.

The Kwak will, probably be the most comfortable as a communter I suspect, never owned one but have ridden a few, likewise the R1.

I have owned a couple of GSXR 1000s and would happily commute on them.

I always struggle with the 'what bike shall I get' question as what you like and suits you will be different to what I would have.

To be honest for the style of bike, you won't really go wrong with any of them. As usual, get what floats your boat Smile

R1s seem to command the most on insurance for some reason. Gixxers are comparitively cheap, so I'd say go K1 thou. Thumbs Up

Considered a 955 Daytona? I believe they are slightly more comfortable that the Japs. Insurance will be cheaper and the triple motor has loads more torque than the Jap thou's which makes it better for the road.

You should be able to get an early 00's bike for 2/2.5k

A really nice late model YZF1000R Thunderace would be a nice alrounder.
