 |
|
if a company takes out money from your account by debit; how can you stop this? I have asked the bank to put a hold on it; but they say as it's a debit there is nothing they can do. Direct debits are fine to be stopped but I gotta stop 1 going out friday and I can't..... its my fucking bank account why can't I control it?!. Any advice? Any bank guru's?
Bastids they are.
And thanks people. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done |

Tell them to either stop it or you withdraw all your money, close the account right now and carry out your future banking from a biscuit tin under the bed?
Difficult to debit money from an account that no longer exists. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Draw all/enough money out so there isn't enough left in your account for them to take?
This probably won't work though, everytime i pay for something over the phone/interweb etc using my card, it never appears straight away (normally 2 or 3 days) but my 'available balance' almost instantly drops by the amount that is due.
So they probably won't let you withdraw all the money stopping the company taking what they are 'owed' essentially.
Have you actually tried ringing the company/person and speaking to them? ____________________ It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt, then it's bloody hilarious!!! |

A debit/credit card is a guaranteed form of payment. There is no way to stop any company from debiting your account once you have given them your card details.
You maybe able to dispute the payment once its debited, so long as its a visa debit card and you can prove you agreed to one amount and they have taken a larger one.
But you would only be able to get the difference back and would need something in writing.
Never ever give your card details to any debt collection company or company you are in dispute with over owed money.
Offer to pay via cheque, cash or via a direct payment via bacs to their accounts.
Taking the cash out of your account could leave you having to pay bank charges.
Closing the account may not work as anything coming in could reopen the account. Now this could lead to the bank chasing you for the debt or if its returned to the co. They would then be able to go straight to court over the payment. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

This isnt entirley true. If you give your details for an amount, they are only authorised to take that amout. If the creditor takes more than you agreed, this is classed as theft and is a criminal offence. Email/cal the creditor and tell them not to take the payment as its in dispute.
THEY ARE NO ALLOWED TO TAKE ANY ACTION AGAINST A DISPUTED PAYMENT
IF they do take a payment, call them, ask for the manager, and demand a refund on the debit. if they refuse, inform the manager that you wil be taking the matter up with the FSA.
also
go into the branch and speak to an advisor, ll them the amount was not the agreed debit value, and dispute the transaction. If they refuse, then inorm them that the card has been used fraudulently, andyou wish the mater to be investigated. The banks hate ths as the admin involved is enormous, so they will probly gie in and return the transaction.
I'd advise to pay the original agreed amount, and dispute the difference. |

For a bank to dispute you need proof that you agreed to X amount and they took Y
You cannot dispute a amount till its debited.
Banks can only work to card regulations, not any legal stuff trading standards tell you.
Its not fraud as YOU have willingly given the card details (Fraud in bank terms is when a 3rd party, has used your details)
Sure you can contact the company involved and tell them your spiel, but don't expect a refund overnight. These companies know how to pay the regs.
Before the FSA can get involved you have to complete the companies complaint procedures. 12 weeks as a rule, before it can be progressed. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

I am with Lloyds, and have found them to be the best so far (I have fallen out with many banks and closed accounts ).
Hard to advise without full details, however if you used a Visa Debit card then why not contact visa? If the amount is over £100 you are protected.
As said, amount debited should have been the agreed amount, any different you should be opening a dispute. ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "

This is getting confusing. So basically what you did was hire a car and not expect them to take the money for it?
When you hired the car, you should of asked them when the money would of been due out. ____________________ It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt, then it's bloody hilarious!!! |

Yeah, my bad as CCA will not apply, however you are covered by Visa Chargeback which voluntarily gives you the same cover. (just not enforcible by law) ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "
