 |
|
While my TZR pit bikes been off the road getting rebuilt, I decided to take on another little project to hoon around my woods on.
It's based as close to a CRF50 as possible. Running a 110cc Semi auto engine, With genuine Honda CRF50 stator and flywheel. Honda engine cover. I was quite proud of myself. It's the first 4t bike engine I've done a full top end rebuild on and had it running after. It runs superb!
It's fast enough for off road. There is a little MX track in my local woods. Its about 500 meters from my house. If I go out of my garden into the woods. Across a foot bridge into some more woods. The track is there.
It's situated between a Motorway, And a main road. So I wont be getting hassled there. I've spoke to a local guy who built the track 5 years ago, He takes his boys there every weekend. And he rides it himself, He's been riding there for 5 years and never been bothered by the law once.

Very nice
You should get this on the road! Always liked the look of these.
I noticed that their is a little off-road track near Blackpool Airport the other day (we have a flat nearby). I am tempted to try a bit off-roading but I am saving for a Monkey at the moment so can't afford a bike JUST for that.
May give it a shot on a Monkey though, see what that is like! |

The monkey bike frames are more or less the same as the pit bike frames.
Fit some longer forks, Off road tyres, and some big bars, and it will practically be a pit bike with a different tank and no plastics.
And I plan to get the CRF on the road! |

Because I already have my TZR125 powered Road legal pit bike with lights. I will probably just run the CRF rep on a Daytime only.
So That's Horn and Speedo. |

Not too sure.
My "new" frame arrived today. It's a proper CRF50 frame, So its dinky. Much shorter than the frame I've currently got.
Unfortunately its a bit old so it needs a re-paint. It's sat at work at the moment. I spent a few hours sanding it down today. Will give it a coat of paint tomorrow.
It's getting painted silver.
Tomorrow night I'll be cutting out a new caliper bracket, Alot neater and slightly bigger around the edges so theres more metal around the bolt holes.
Other than that, Waiting on some odyssey civilian BMX bars and new risers. Got to rig up the rear hand brake and remove the foot pedal.
Then technically its finished.
Long term I want to remove the gold from the rims, and have them chrome instead (Stock CRF50 style).
Drop a couple of teeth on the rear sprocket. My sprocket and wheel ratio is designed for a 50cc Honda engine. I am running a 110cc engine, So its constantly spinning up, and topping out at less than 30mph. |

I'm trying to shake off all the gold bits. I'm spraying the caliper black to try and make the gold wheels look better.
The gold makes it look proper Chinkey.
BMX bars are top for riding.
Once I get the Red Barron Billet Top Clamp Kit and rear hand brake kit. It will infact be like riding a fast BMX. |

Looking really good pal,
Love that Billet clamp, little touches like that really finish a bike off!
I agree about the gold. Always reminds me of American cars.
Be smashing if you get it on the road!

As its only a Replica, And not a Gen Honda. It's not liked very much anywhere other than on the Pit Bike Club Forum.
I was thinking about entering the TZR Pit bike into Britains got Biking talent. But Never got round to it.

But thats illigal
The TZR pit isnt even the original frame anyway.
| blindweezy wrote: | nice, what about red wheels and black cals? might look ok with the red fairings as well |
Trying to keep it looking as stock as possible, But with little trick bits like the billet top clamp.
I'm gonna do the caliper Black for now. I'd like some new wheels eventually. Either Black or Silver rims. Not a fan of coloured wheels really. The gold is bad enough!
Little update...
I got another set of forks today. I paid £22 posted for them. The seller said they have 1 bent leg and 1 decent leg, So I can use one of the legs and any other parts to fix up my current forks.
Anyway, I stripped them down today at work. Soaked everything in WD40 to clean it all.
As I inspected them, The fork legs looked quite different. Rather than the CRF50 fork legs im used to seeing, Which look like they have been hammered flat at the bottom and a hole drilled in them for the axle.
They had a proper welded base on them.
As I pulled them apart, I noticed that they had the Fast 50's Heavy duty Fork leg bushings fitted, Which were solid as anything!
And as I pulled the leg right out of the forks, I noticed all the metal bushes were Gold, And made from Billet!
When I got home, I also noticed that the legs are actually +1 legs.
But the so called "bent" leg, was bent so little, you cant notice it by eye. Rolling it on a glass table shows its about 1mm bent. Which is nothing.
So I'm WELL chuffed! Along with my Red Baron Top clamp. I've got like £200 worth of forks on my Fiddy now!
I spent this evening assembling the forks in my garage with fresh grease. Re-spaced the front wheel as the +1 legs have different bottoms.
I had to trim my caliper mount slightly, But it fits better now. The flat cut edge on the bottom of the new fork legs acts as a stopper to prevent the caliper from moving back when I pull the brake when rolling the bike backwards.
Rear shock is a tad spongey now compared to the forks. But nothing a Heavy Duty spring wont sort out.
New and old fork leg

New and old fork internals. Bushing and spring.

Geo Check. Notice the pegs are still tilted forwards. I think its the cheap peg bar.
Will have to get a Fast 50's one to mount the pegs properly.

Heavy Duty rear shock will sort out the handling. Probably the next big step for the time being.
I should get my bits today or tomorrow. I've got a Moped rear brake cable on its way, So I can run the rear drum brake from the lever on the bars. (Its semi auto so no clutch).
Got a BBR Motorsport bar pad on its way.
Eventually I want chrome or black wheels, But thats not important at the moment.
I've just bought some new tyres. Slightly more aggressive tread as the tyres I have currently dont grip at all when its wet.
I've also just bought a new side stand as mines just a cut down Chinese one.
I've also got a reg-Rec in the post so I can run a Horn and Brake light. |
