Please tell me it's saveable.

It's sitting in my back garden now with a litre of oil down the plug hole.

Will try and turn it over tomorrow when it's light and i get more oil to fill up the sump, but please tell me it's not a rebuild Praying

Your Youtube video says that it ran out of oil?

Worst comes to the worst, CG engines must be able to be had pretty cheap?

Yeah.

Ran out of oil, did what it did in the video and wouldn't turn over.

Emptied the oil down and it freed off a bit with the kickstart, so put more down it and left it overnight.

I think i'll be able to get one from a breakers cheap, we'll see what happens Sad

Gonna get some more oil tomorrow.

Hopefully it's not completely dead.

HOPEFULLY.

If it is, i might as well treat it to a new engine.

You're having some bad luck with that CG, fella Thumbs Down Hope it turns out alright, didnt sound good though.. Looks like even if it does you got that leak to fix anyhow Sad

Maybe it's time to get that electric start engine, at least then you'd have an upside!

See, the newer engines aint as fast, the older ones are much faster.

But they are all kickstart.

Hmm....

Depends on how much they cost Laughing

I would take it apart and check the bore before filling it with more oil. You can get them re bored for around £30 plus a piston kit and gaskets.

I must say, this is the first thread that i have seen ever with a cg seizing up.

My guess is that this would solve all my problems?

And for £60 it must be cheaper than a rebore and new piston/rings.

I'd try your current lot, when i seized my ts i let it cool off for a few days and it was fine, so you might very well get lucky. I'd be cautious of a barrel and piston set that cheap, the last cg i rebuilt was £41 for the piston, rings, circlips, gudgeon pin, gaskets and getting the barrel honed. I'd be worried its made of cheese for that price.

I don't know about faster, two friends I know that have CG's, one has a newer model than me and the other has an old mid 90's and differences in power were minute, the only real difference was between my CG and the newer (2007) one but I think that was as my gearing was changed and that was maybe 1.5mph more at best Laughing Just slowly creeped away from him on the dual carriageway, nothing really noticeable

I'd be cautious as you dont know what damage has been done to the bottom end.

Righto, the piston was freed off last night, and i flushed out the sump and then filled with new oil.

Kicked it over a few times so it could circulate some oil and stuck the spark plug in.

Hooray.

It started, smoke everywhere but that's the oil burning off.

So i got the stethoscope out and looked/listened for any sign of damage i.e. knocking.

Nothing.

I then got the compression tester out... which showed 135.

Seems ok then, maybe i was lucky.

Took it out for a wee run after sorting the idle issue out, was wayy to fast.

So on the run, heard a sound like a compressor letting out air, so stopped and noticed my spark plug was loose.

So tightened that up, and now it's better than it was before, better throttle reaction and sounds nicer too.

So all in all, i think i was a lucky boy. I'll see if anything else happens, just need to sort out those gaskets.

Found what was causing the oil leak Smile

The bloody bolt to drain the oil was loose.

Will upload the video of it belching smoke after i started it.

Nah, the REAL record is totally destroying it till it won't work! Sounds like you were lucky, I'd hazard the piston got really hot, and expanded more than the rings, which is why you still have good compression Smile as a testament to Honda reliability i knocked the sump of my c90 field bike out once, it dropped all the oil, but still wouldnt seize! when it eventually died i threw a set of rings in it and sold it on XD

I bought (was given) a cg off trchnophobe on here last month. He managed to sieze it good and proper..hole in the piston again lack of oil......not an easy motor to sieze like the cd benleys..they just keep going. new piston and it's back running again now!!! oh and use of a flap wheel to remove the half mill thick aly deposits left in the bore!!!! just as well I'm used to the 2strokes there I think Very Happy Very Happy

OR

maybe it seized just as it cut out, and the fact that i didn't force the kickstart whatsoever causing the rings sto scrape the barrel saved them.

I suppose i won't know till i come to replace the piston, rings and gaskets.

Hi
You where lucky....
The only way to make sure there are no bits of metal in the bottom of your W model is to take clutch case of...
With no sum plug on this model you do not always get all metal particals out ...

When ordering Gaskets make sure you get the metal head gasket not the one older models use...

If your going to put new piston rings you should pay the extra and have rebore... Go for 2mm over size helps with performance.. Laughing

I love how you knew it was a W model Laughing

It's been flushed through with Petrol, might change the clutch soon though, it's tapping a wee bit.

But works fine.

I'll keep running it and see if anything improves as the oil circulates Laughing

Heres the video i forgot to include.

Just after we started it after the oil change.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bhRJ4u3dCw

Note the smoke coming from the exhaust, the gasket is gone so it's blowing at that point.

Nice sound from it though.

Hi

With the W model on the oil can come out clean with flushing But with no sump plug it still holds 200ml of oil after changing which still can be holding metal particals..

Yours may have no bits in at all but have seen a few when you take of clutch case and tip bike towards you to get last bit of oil out its been full of metal particals

Tapping depends where coming from eg just tappets need ajusting. or if generator side like just above generator it is the cam spindle/ cam gears have got a bit of play due to lack of oil..

Would not worry about it have head plenty that are really badly worn and still running 12 months later.. Laughing

Laughing then it's all good. The oil was cleaned right out, we made sure of it.

Took the cover off and cleaned up in there too to see if there was any obvious damage Laughing

But it's all good Thumbs Up
