Wheel alignment method?

Does anybody have any good methods for aligning the rear wheel as one of the adjuster bracket things on my swing arm is a bit bent up so not very accurate.

use a straight edge as a guide like a long plank or a ladder or push it out to the road & use the curb if it's straight

Gave a google for it, or search on here.
There's plenty of methods available to you. I made my own laser alignment thing a while ago (until I needed the laser for something else)... but a piece of string tied to the back of the back tyre is an easy one.

i did google it and found the string method but surely this only works if you have the front wheel dead straight,

The string method is pretty accurate but is a bit fiddly at first. Once you know what you are doing though it is pretty easy. Nowadays I have two straight edges that I use which is much quicker and simpler to set up, the downside is storing them for that once in a while that you actually require them.

The string method works fine.
No matter how the wheels are.
If you get the same 'out' at the rear of front wheel as you get at the rear of rear wheel (On the other side of the tyre) then you can subtract this from your alignment.

Always seems more complex than it is but trial and error will reap rewards.

measure from the swing arm pivot bolt centre to the rear wheel spindle centre both sides and adjust to achieve the same distance and that will be as near as dammit

I use a lazer pointer mounted on a straight edge that clamps to my rear wheel. you use it just the same as a sting but it is less stringy.
