i need to know things like top end??
acceleration??

if anyone has ever restricted an r6 please tell me your experiences?

also how easy are they to restrict then derestrict as i will be using it on the track at uni on my motorcycle engineering course Smile and a track aint much fun at 33bhp

I was thinking about 100 top end and maybe 2 or 3 more seconds to get to 60?

Umm... 33bhp perhaps? Smile

You'll do 90-100 on it.

You will probably scrape 100mph but you might also want to look out for the 2nd gear issues which the early r6's suffer from too if you are thinking of buying a 2002 one.

haha marjay you sarcastic cock Middle Finger haha, made me chuckle Laughing

second gear issues ya said. please enlighten me as i need a bike thats going to keep me running as i have just had 2 problem bikes in a row and need something that is going to get me from uni to home ( 60 miles ) every fortnight along a motorway. and to and from work every day without breaking. what is the problem with second gear on the r6's and is it just 2002 or previous aswell??

is it possible to restrict it to say 55bhp?? im sure its got to be, at least then i can have some fun and tell the police its restricted without techinically lying. so were kinda meeting halfway Smile

i've got an R6 restrictor kit sat on my desk that is open for offers via PM.

ive got no use for it Crying or Very sad

as for the 55bhp restriction, R6's are restricted at the inlet as well as the slides.

with both items, the bike is 33bhp.

if you were to remove the inlet restriction, it would be nowhere near full power, but above 33bhp.

The 99-02 r6s have a common problem of slipping when under load and is very costly to get repaired. The YZF Thundercats also suffered with this issue but the 03 onwards r6 has had this costly problem sorted out.

restriction sucks, but when your restriction runs out just whip the restrictor plates out and crap yourself when the motor gets on song! (in a good way!)

I personally wouldn't bother restricting it.

I met a lad the other night who paid like £200 for a local motorbike dealership to put a little pin in his throttle to stop it going past about 1/4 turn.

well if i dont restrict it and i get caught i have to either pay a fine or take my test again, which is silly really. might as-well obey the law and just put up with it for another year than risk it. plus another years experience on the road wont do me any harm i suppose before i decide to kill myself on the r6.

Just to say how come you don't look at the CBR 600, there known to be great bikes, also i would certainly restrict it no matter what idiots say on here there not the one riding it you are and its your licence.

But have a look at CBR 600 i think that could be another bike for you.

I prefer the look on the yamaha, the headlights in particular, although the new CBR is veeery swanky the old R6 is a hell of a lot prettier than the old CBR's. personal choice in all honesty. i know what bike i want i just need info about the pathetic 33bhp kits. i mean couldnt they have let us have like 60bhp for 2 years. its ridiculous.... why 33??? how random

I personaly belive it should be reduced by extra training like Pass + and miles ridden.

I would happily pay £250 for extra training then do 9k miles over say a minimum of 6 months. Then you can de-restrict.

And for anyone who dosent want to part with £250, Dosent love his bike enough. Thumbs Up Mr. Green

But it would be hard to prove miles ridden... Thinking

Pah! Rolling Eyes He's a big boy and can make his own decisions. I ride unrestricted and risk my licence. Not hurting anyone else, and not risking his licence by giving an opinion and saying keep it full power. He can make his own mind up.

As long as your no stupid, you can ride it full power without any trouble. Lots of riders on here do ride like nobs unrestricted, still without problems. As long as you are aware what *could* happen, and ride accordingly, you'll be fine. If you on' want to take that risk, then that's fine, no one's going to give a crap anyway, it's your bike and your the only one riding it at the end of the day.

33bhp feels limp. The best way of describing it is to say that the power delivery is flat. Feels like it pulls just as patheicly at high revs as it does at low revs. Take them out and it's a whole different ball game.

Regarding an R6 or a CBR, depends what you want... Dunno how comfy an R6 is for going distance, but the CBR is very comfy.

Also, the CBR makes as much power, but with less revs Wink

i was restricted for about a month on my GSXR600.

crashed twice during my restriction. once on GSXR600, once on R6, no questions asked.

pulled over loads of times, only asked about it once.

bike police pulled me over when i had my GSXR400, asked:
''is it restricted?''
''it should be'' said i...
he agreed.
no more was said.

basically you have to be a cunt to police or kill someone for it to be an issue.

im out of my time now (as of the 20th), so i can admit to all my naughties.

Hi

Performance of any bike restricted to 33hp should be about the same. Extra weight will affect acceleration a bit. Worse aerodynamics will reduce top speed.

Expect a top speed of around 100mph and 0-60 in 6~7 seconds. Suspect there will be no real difference between the R6 and your CBR400.

While you could faff around and try and restrict it to something over 33hp it would appear pretty useless. Slower than it would otherwise be but still in no way legal for a restricted licence.

All the best

Keith
