Thermals under leathers?

As its coming in to winter, and I hate riding without my leathers on, I was wondering what thermals I can buy to wear under them?

Would those thermolite jacket and pants be ok? Or should I go for the anti freeze thermal's?

I dont quite understand the difference! Im sure they would both go under my leathers!

Or does anyone else have any good suggestions to some decent thermals to wear under my leathers?

You can get cheap ones that are just plain and they work just as good if not better than the expensive one off that website

Isn't it already warm in leathers?

Hmm, what a thread to be starting in August! Either you're being super well prepared or the weather is already all wintery......

Just an observation as I do get really cold very quickly on the bike so have to wear thermal stuff for about 9 months of the year. I already had thermal gear for general stuff like hiking etc. and it was ok on the bike. Decided to be a tart and invest in proper bike thermals and found quite a difference as there is extra wind protection on the bits you need protecting.

I'd say if you're going to be using them a lot and can afford them then buying the proper bike stuff is worthwhile. If it's for occasional use then the normal thermals will be adequate.

Skiing and hillwalking thermals are not quite as extortionately overpriced as motorbike ones. Look for "technical layer" thermals. They are very thin and wick sweat away, also take a while to start to stink.

Yeah bike undersuits are crazy priced for what they are and there are non-biking versions you can find cheaply enough. I got an EDZ undersuit and think its ok but neck to crotch height is a bit tight sometimes - I am only 5'11" too.

It is a godsend in summer though being a 1 piece it makes it easy to get my suit off on hot days, a 2 piece version would be ok for winter when the 1 piece leathers wont get worn.

I swear by one-piece union suits in winter, (complete with "Crap Flap"). I find seperates keep riding up or down. I get Carhartt ones from eBay USA for pennies. They're great for knocking around the house in too - like a grown-up romper suit . They go on in October and don't come off until March

My leathers are summer leathers, so there very vented with tiny holes all over them to get you cool. A bit annoying when it starts to get chilli but good in the summer!

Ive got textiles but I hate riding in them, I just don't feel protected enough, so Ill nip in to my local TK Max and Primark and get a thermal 1 peice.

I got a set of base layers from either Aldi or Lidl (I forget) for not much more than a tenner for both and wear them all the time under my 1 piece. For the price I couldn't fault them at all and also wear them if I'm off cycling or hiking with the mutt.

If it's really nippy a cheap thin t -shirt and the wifes leggings go on as well

To be honest I don't think it's important to spend a massive amount when it's really the layering effect which makes a difference.

Works well for me anyway

Think im going to get an Arlen Ness rain suit for some rainy track days aswell, they have a cut out for knee sliders

Ill get some thermals, was just seeing if they actually worked, and they obviously do!

1pc Fleece undersuits used with Drysuits are useful.

Don't wear it anymore since getting some coldkillers ½ price at last years' NEC show. If you can afford it, I recommend the Windstopper jacket.

I used to wear an extra pair of boxers, extra pair of socks, 2 t-shirts over an Edz thermal layer, and a buff. Then my leathers. Then my 1-peice waterproofs over the top to keep the wind out.

Kept me mostly warm, the worse thing though is trying to keep feet and hands warm. After about an hour they start to go numb, at the 2 hour mark they hurt like Fck.

The pain when you go from sub-zero temperatures into a warm room is HORRENDOUS. Like when you put cold hands under the hot tap.

I used to get home and take my gloves off, and stand around outside for a few minutes whilst they unfroze, before going indoors.

Textile time of the year always found them more warm with the inner removable lining! if your still cold jumper or a hoody works well

Ill just go and pick some cheap thermals up, and Im going to try on one of those Arlen Ness rain suits for some track days on full wets

Under Armour technical layers are the dogs bits, I thought it was all voodoo but a fellow referee recommended them for winter and summer and I've never looked back. They are compression type unders so keep your body heat in, keep the cold out and because they are literally skin tight you get nice warm air between them and your leathers. The key isn't getting you warm, its maintaining a comfortable level of body heat and these do it like no other.

I wear the heat gear under armour during the summer too, same principal but it wicks sweat away from your body, when you take your leathers off just rip off your under armour and your body is bone dry and somehow the shirt smells to high heaven from sucking up your sweat and you smell lovely and fresh.

If you're sensible you can find them in JJB sports for £25 a piece.

Both work superbly well but impractical for day to day use as you need to wash them practically after every ride.

Im even more confused now!

If money was no object, you just wanted the warmest windproof thermals, what would be the best to buy?

Money is an object but I dont mind spending up to around £100 to keep warm in the winter! My leathers have little breathing holes all over them so it can get a bit chilli!!

I would buy some cheap thermals and get yourself some wind/waterproof jacket and trousers,either motorcycle based ones or get some from a camping shop.

If your wearing vented leathers like i do, then i demand you buy a 1 piece waterproof suit.

Makes more difference in keeping you warm than anything else suggested will.

Layers are good, but if you've got no wind protection, you'll still freeze. A waterproof suit will be 100% windproof.
