Knee down on public roads?

Went out for a hack down a good bit of road today, lots of fast corners, slow corners, straights etc .. had a bit of fun with a guy who was really getting his knee down.

I noticed that he really was able to carry more speed into the corner than me obviously, but he had no balls around the fast corners so i just rode up to the back of him, he was also so early on the brakes ..

was making me wonder, is knee down really worth it on public roads?

I think it annoyed him a little bit that he looked cool but was slooowwww

Someone please correct me if i am wrong but the reason that racers get their KD is purely to indicate how far they are leant over.

If you watch the moto gp, they are all getting their KD, they will know from experience where the end of their knee is, so when it touches down they know how far they are cranked over (so in other words, how much more tyre they have left before they run out and stack it)

Another thing you may notice is when they race in the wet, they almost double up their sliders, obviously if they leant to the same extent in the wet they will probably die thus their knee stopping them from going as far.

I quite happily hold my own in the fast group when I do my track days, I very rarely get my knee down. I dont feel the need to.

There is nothing funnier than watching someone hanging off their bike as far as they can with the bike still almost upright in an attempt to get their knee down! Even funnier when you see it on track!

It can help but if you're trying too hard then it'll only slow you down. It's certainly more useful on the track but more of a willy waving thing on the road.

it made me faster, learning how to showed me that the bike is a lot more capable than i thought it was, thus making me faster.......... i think

everyone is different, you cant really say who was faster, it's all down to the individual.

doing KD doesn't give your tyre's extra grip but i think it does give you more control and a better idea of how hard you are pushing............ aslong as your sole focus is not getting your knee down as this could well slow you down and result in 50p shaped lines
