Petrol Increase+Bike Use

The increase of petrol has risen to around 105p a litre. and is set to go up again by tonight and will possibly be 125p by year end.
With this in mind will you be using your bike more, and will you now consider all weather riding if you didn`t before.

I'll probably ride the bike more, but I suspect any savings in petrol will be negated with increased spending on tyres.

Can't say that I've ever even looked at the price of petrol when I'm filling up. It's always just been something I need so I buy it when and where I need it.

Unless it becomes ludicrously expensive then I doubt my driving / riding habits will change.

Probably just cycle a bit more.

Interestingly the price of crude has been sitting around $70 a barrel for a while now, not sure why petrol prices have been continuing to increase.

This is exactly why I need a bike lol

My car is diesel and so will soon cost way too much to fill up regularly- whereas a bike is cheaper to fill up, dont have to pay car park near the uni plus its free on the toll bridge
Have to drive an hour + each way to uni, going to be expensive when it goes up more

I pretty much only use my bike for commuting about 120 miles a week, which costs me 15 quid a fill near enough. The price of petrol made me buy a smaller engined car recently (1.4) which also comes with cheaper tax. Im also toying with the idea of going back to the bike i had originally instead of the one i have now.

It's 106.9 here, and that's supermarkets, doesn't get any cheaper round here, it's a joke.

Just for those who don't know, if you live in what is classed as a 'richer' area, they charge more.

I wouldn't class Stevenage as a richer area.....not by a long way, we must have some rich villages around or something.

It seems as soon as you get about 20miles away from here petrol drops by about 5p a litre.

At the end of the day, the few pence doesn't make a huge difference, unless you drive alot of miles, or a gas guzzler.

My little car does about the same MPG as my bike, so makes no difference to me... I only travel about 2 miles to work everyday, and 80-odd to the gf's house every fortnight.

I tend to use the village petrol station rather than going to town if I can help it as, unusually for this area, it is thriving and only a penny or two more than going to town which is 12 miles away.

It's great having a petrol station right on your doorstep and I don't mind paying the few pence more as I like the convenience and I want it to stay open. The mechanic there does me favours, too.

There is a petrol station in the next town which is part of a sort of mini-chain (petrol and Spar shop franchise, about 4 of them in the county) who charge over 110 a litre now so I dread to think how much theirs is going to go up tomorrow.

I definitely won't be using the bike any less as I can't drive!

I found it strange that here in the middle of nowhere petrol is a few pence cheaper than pretty much every garage I saw on the way to Cornwall a couple of weeks ago. We didn't take many trunk roads either.

Given that lasts septembers average supermarket price was 111.3p

So in effect that is a 0% increase over the year.

Also this is about 20p cheaper than its highest price in the last year.
When you also factor in the fact that when fuel prices were at their highest, the £ to $ was at one of its best ever exchange rates, and if it had been anything like it is now the price would have been one hell of a lot higher.

The cost of fuel has no bearing on how much i use bike over car. Each has its own use and there is not much i can do to cut car usage. When its used to carry 3 or more people.

The excuse the government gave was "Public Investment" and they needed the money for that.

Im well pi55ed off, instead of finding out and stopping where al the money "vanishes" to that we pay in our already scandelous taxes they just up the price on something they know the country cant do with out.

I am absolutely livid. only a matter of time before the proverbial faeces makes contact with a air circulation device.

There were mutterings on financial websites about oil reaching $150 a barrel by mid-next year. That would be around £2 a litre here...

The bailouts and never-ending printing of currency will always cause inflation in the end. <shrug>

What I don't understand is that in this 'economic crisis', raising the price of fuel will only stiffle any regeneration by increasing the cost of transporting goods (e.g. food) around, making them cost more and having a net negative effect.

One would have thought that in this time, lowering fuel costs would encourage regeneration.

I wonder if the fuel duty added to counter to drop in VAT will be taken off in December when VAT goes back to 17.5% ?
