After having been at work all day, I just walked in to find a letter from eBike Insurance telling me that they were unable to collect my last payment and that my policy has been cancelled from 26/8/2009 at 13:31. Basically I have been riding around for 3 days with no insurance and I didn't have a clue.

I have received the policy documents for this month's insurance (pay as you go insurance).

The letter is dated the 27th. They have made no attempt to contact me about this. I'm quite pissed off about it as I have never ridden with no insurance and I could quite easily have been pulled over and fined or, even worse, been involved in an accident and not been covered.

Am I right in saying that they have majorly shit it here? Do you reckon I have anything on them? Personally I am disgusted, and I now cannot use my bike to get to work tomorrow.

Thanks in advance.

It was an automatic card payment and I had no idea that it hadn't gone through.

How is it? Surely they should have let me know that they're cancelling my insurance beforehand?

Whilst covdude may have been a bit harsh with the words, I am afraid if you use pay as you go, and don't pay, what did you expect them to do?

It is up to you to pay them on the due date, you are paying in advance for a service, but you failed at your end.

Normal insurance would have continued whilst they contacted you, but normal insurance runs with the payments a bit ahead of the service.

Do you not check you account balance or transactions.....

Have you just recived a new card, or old one expired or even over limit....

Have you contacted ebike or bank to find out why the transaction was declined.....

I see they use RBS worldpay to take payment.....

Thanks for the constructive comments there, guys.

I understand that it's kind of my fault that it's not been paid, but I literally had no idea. With a card payment, it normally doesn't show up on your statement for a couple of days. This time was no exception. With it being a bank holiday I wouldn't have expected it to show up. In fact I would have expected them to contact me if they couldn't take the payment, at least to tell me that I wouldn't be covered, with it being a matter of me breaking the law. I have the money sitting right here so if they don't want it, then fuck 'em.

I haven't been able to contact eBike because with it being the busiest weekend of the year where I work there is no chance of getting hold of them within working hours. Also if you have been with eBike you will know that they are allergic to phone calls. Apparently this saves money on your premium. Obviously I cannot contact the bank until Tuesday.

Anyway, lesson learnt the easy way, they're not having my money again. I was only paying more to be with them so I could build up my no-claims a bit quicker, but I think now I will take a policy less than half the price for the same cover.

Hi
when i have had cock ups on payments and they have been missed i always get a letter telling me first, sounds like they are being pricks. they will prolly charge u for it then again to start the policy again, but you would be better to call them and see what happened they may sort it out for you.

Well i would say that letter was contact...
That would tend to say that payment was due at least 5 days before.
I would take it that with a monthly payment they will not chase, when payment does not come through. Just send a letter saying policy cancelled. As that is what most people will want.

So even with a delay in showing you should have known before the bank holiday weekend.

Does you bank not have telephone or internet banking ??
If they don't then think about moving to one who does.
If they do then you should get a reply before tues. Most banks work over holidays now, its only branches that are not open....
I know i work them....

Why have you not sent ebike a email then...... At least that way they can look into the problem and get back to you.

So you are paying way over the odds to get a years NCB in 8 months.....
Far better to have payed 50% less and got it in 12 months.....

Exactly the same happened to me. Yes, yes, being a couple of quid short was entirely my own cock up, but instantly cancelling the policy and losing 2/3 of my time built up to my next year no claims was, in my opinion, a bit f***ing harsh and not entirely neccessary. I wouldn't have thought an attempt at making contact or at least a chance to reinstate the policy would be too much to ask of a fellow human being. Hey ho.

As it happened, after searching around, I found that, as I had just turned 25 at the time, there were far more better deals around and now find eBike to be shockingly expensive. It is nice to not have to cough up a deposit, but as you've just seen, it's worth it to have proper customer service and bigger long term savings with a better company offering a normal annual policy.

Just for a laugh, try a car quote with them, you'll be amazed, for all the wrong reasons!!!

As for eBike, like I said, if they don't want my money then fuck 'em. If they'd have chased me up for the money, they could have had it. It's their loss. I'm not in a hurry about emailing them to find out what happened as they never bothered contacting me to tell me I wasn't insured.

Just because the payment hasn't gone through doesn't mean that my policy has been cancelled. I had already recieved my policy documents for that month and they normally do take it out on the 26th.

Yes, but when I took out the quote they weren't 50% more expensive, and I was holding onto them until I'd got the second year's no claims (October).

Read your cancellation letter again. The policy is invalid if payment isn't received. Your docs are invalid, you are not insured!

Quote:
1 years NCB – 30%
2 years NCB – 40%
3 years NCB – 45 to 50%
4 years NCB – 50 to 60%
5 years NCB – 65%

Given that you only gain 10% for that year.

How much would ebikes 8 months cost compared to 12 months with another company.
