Hi, I've got a Speedfight from a friend, and it has been standing for a few years, everything was removed for it to be resprayed. This included the fuel tap. We tried starting the bike, and the starter motor was working fine and as the bike has no exhaust fitted at the minute, we could hear the pistons moving up and down. The problem is, we have connected the two pipes, (Not sure what one is which!!) and when we pour fuel into the tank, it leaks all over the floor, does anyone know what the problem could be?

It's either working exactly as intended or it's completely broken.

Where, exactly, is it leaking from?
Does it leak all the time, or only when you are turning the engine over?

By the way, you'll probably have to put the exhaust on to make it start.

Put one of the pipes on the bit at the bottom.

Turn the engine over.

If fuel comes out, it's the right one, if it isn't, it's the other hose.

The fuel leak will caused by a perished or missing o-ring seal or gasket that sits between the top of the fuel tap and the tank.

replace.

the upper of the two outlets on your tap is the fuel feed to your carb,

the lower one is the vaccuum pipe to open the tap

Cheers for your speedy replies guys Thumbs Up

But it's leaking fuel when its POURED into the tank, not when it is starting so im guessing its something to do with the o-ring seal.

Well it's leaking all down the tap so my guess is that it is the o-ring, i don't know where to obtain one from.

Looks more like a missing washer, my guess would be that when the tap was removed it got stuck to the tank and subsequently was lost. Any petrol-proof soft washer that fits will do - go to halfords and buy a pack if you are desperate.

One thing to do first, though, is make sure you have assembled it correctly. The white bit in the picture there is a fuel filter, and if you look at the bottom of it, the "washer" may actually be a part of that - it will be shaped like a very tall top-hat. It should be obvious, the rim of the top-hat will be trapped between the fuel tap and the tank itself, making a seal.

Ok we have managed to fix the fuel tap, now a larger problem has arrised. When using the electric start, the engine turns but does not fire, any ideas?
