Just wondering if anyone on here has ever had their bike impounded for dyno testing cos the copper who pulled you over thought it might not be restricted and yet somehow knew you were on a restricted licence?

I did hear a story on here of somebody who had their bike dynoed, and they were (luckily) 33bhp restricted.

Its a big risk TBH. When I passed my test no copper knew about the law (it hadn't been in force for all that long) but nowadays it seems they are a lot more clued up on it.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

So does everyone carry their licence on them? Or can they look it up on some database?

No, but I'm just trying to weigh up the risk of derestricting my bike before my time is up (still got another year to go on my A2 licence and it's killing me).

They can look it up on 'some database'.

IMO its not worth the risk,

if you have a crash and the insurance check for the restriction kit and its not there you will be screwed.

How long you got left on your restriction?

There maybe a few other people that have had theirs tested, not sure though.

But, they tested my bike (i mentioned this in my accident thread (or related thread) last year. The bike was/still is a total write off, rear wheel is absolutley FUBAR'd but they still managed to test it. I am told they ran it off the front sprocket rather than the wheel.

Fortunatley i was restricted, although a few days prior i wasn't (took them out for about a week, wasn't much different so stuck them back in). That was on a bandit 400.

So yes, they DO check if they feel they need to, if you are involved in a very serious accident as i was, they will most likely check once they come to find that you are on a restricted license.

On my bike now (DRZ400SM), it isn't restricted. Was dyno'd on a dynojet dyno (i know Laughing ) and came out at 36.72hp, so i'm sure i could sweet talk the local dyno room to change a few of the figures Wink

Hmmm, that's what I thought. Which means if I ever get pulled over for ay reason at all (and no reason is a reason) my property is at risk of being confiscated there and then just in case I might be breaking the law. This may or may not leave me stranded miles from home or even from a bus stop.

Correct?

Few years ago I got stopped by a bike cop. I was 17 and on a ZX6R, the cop thought it was the biggest bike I could ride until I was 21.

Remember something on here about someone whose bike got taken away for not being restricted, but he'd admitted at the roadside that it wasn't restricted which is kinda shooting yourself in the foot.

Don't admit anything.

If you aren't driving in accordance with your license you're liable for points and your vehicle being impounded.

If that invalidates your insurance you're liable for points and your vehicle being impounded.

It just doesn't seem worth the risk to me - and if I were going to ride without a valid license/insurance etc, I certainly wouldn't be riding like a dick or flaunting a mars-bar plate etc.

It can be done, not worth the risk though as well it'll be quite a big thing as it's not a simple "Oh I forgot officer" it's in knowledge riding something that goes against your license'

i treated my restriction like a birthday, when it came off, was like a present..and glad it did come off, was worth the wait..would you rather

-have an accident n restricted bike, get the legal cover and compensation...

OR

-have insurance invalidated, probably break a few bones, lose your job n get no cash?

wait a year mate Thumbs Up

But the only way they can tell if I'm not driving in accordance with my license is to confiscate the bike FIRST in order to test it.

Thing is, I am at equal risk of having my bike confiscated right now, even though I AM riding within the terms of my licence. That's going to really suck if it happens as it could leave me stranded.

So far I've not seen any posts from people where this has happened to them, however.

Nopes, they can tell if you are going to fast, and some coppers will be able to spot it by how quickly you can accelerate.

Why?

Rozzer: I've stopped you to discuss with you the dangers of diesel patches on the road.
Me: Thank you very much for your kind concern.
Rozzer: Less of your fucking cheek, sonny. My database has told me that you currently have a restriction on your license.
Me: That is correct, officer. This bike is restricted to 33bhp.
Rozzer: You fucking filthy liar!
Me: I have a restriction certificate from the manufacturers if you'd like to see it.
Rozzer: Don't you come all barrack-room lawyer with me you greasy shit! I happen to know that isn't worth the paper it's printed on. I'm going to impound this bike to have its power measured on a dynamometer.
Me: But how am I going to get home?
Rozzer: You should have thought of that before you decided on that cut of jib!

That's why.

What a load of bollox.... I highly doubt that the way the conversation went if it ever took place....
I have been pulled over several times, and none of the coppers had that attitude. But i have to give you credit for the way you portrayed the officer as a right twat, and put yourself across as the very nice, polite, well brought up, upstanding member of the community.

The above implies the kit is still in the bike, and you are intending to take it out.

Implies you havent been stopped yet.
Somehow i think you are chatting out your hoop in you last post......

Both correct! I didn't mean to imply that conversation actually took place however, I was simply trying to give a flavour of how it might go ...

Fair enough, it should have been stated though lol.

But i think what Doug should realise here is that its not worth the risk. Loads of people get away with it everyday, but then again, there are a few that get collared and screwed cos they knowingly broke the law.

And Doug, its very rare you will get a little Hitler of a copper, as long as you are nice and polite you shouldn't get any bad attitude crap from them.
