[Daily Fail Mode]

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8232633.stm

Quote:
ADHD is now the most common childhood-onset behavioural disorder.

Those affected have a greatly reduced ability to maintain attention without being distracted and find it difficult to control what they are doing or saying.

That'd be bad behaviour then?

Quote:
But the chief executive of The National Attention Deficit Disorder Information and Support Service said there was nothing controversial about it.

"These are children with a disability who cannot wait. You cannot teach someone who is crippled to walk, someone who is deaf to hear," says Andrea Bilbow. "They have a 30% maturity lag, and are emotionally younger than their peers.

"This is no different to these children being allowed to go ahead in the dinner queue at school.

But they shouldn't be allowed to go ahead in the dinner queue, should they?!

Quote:

"What people need to remember is that it doesn't just make it easier for the child and their carers, it's better for everyone in that queue too."

Oh great, so basically - let them go to the front because if they don't they'll behave like little shits and make your lives misery? Classy.

I may be missing something here, and I'm willing to accept that there may be a few kids out there with mental conditions that mean they don't understand the concept of 'delayed reward' - they should, however, understand the concept of doing what they're told by their folks, and not being little shits to other people.

If they can't go somewhere without making other people's lives worse then don't take them there!

It's yet another case of people who misbehave get more than those who toe the line - and who ultimately end up paying for it all.

It'll cause an increase in the number of kids being diagnosed with ADHD.

1 in 20 kids have it according to that article... using my expert medical knowledge I say that's bullshit!!

'Rewarding' them by allowing queue jumping is wrong. I know that the idea they're being rewarded is likely to be offensive to people who genuinely have ADHD, but kids aren't 100% stupid, they'll see their mates getting to jump queues so claim to have the same symptoms.

As kids with ADHD can't wait, do birthdays and christmas get earlier each year for them? Razz

I have no idea if my kids might have ended up with ADHD; if it was a potential condition it got smacked out of them along with the regular stuff.

There's a good reason for sayings like "Spare the rod, spoil the child." Age-old wisdom, time-tested and proven. Then binned by the progressive bleeding-heart health & safety faggot liberals.

But they've got RIGHTS Hetzer!

I hate the argument that kids only misbehave because they are victims, or because they don't understand what they're doing.

They usually know full well - they just don't give a shit. Well meaning liberal twats can't cope with this, and thus ignore it and carry on like scrotes are just misunderstood 'ickle angels.

No you didn't.

I bet you found yourself at the very BACK of the queue with a smacked arse. By which time there's no chips left.

No comment on the 'now', there seems to be a syndrome or algery for everything these days. . .

But, surley its not helping them for the future when they don't get such protection? Or, do people with this grow out of it?

I think, although my eyes may have decieved me, that I just saw Mister James and Mister Hetzer wholeheartedly agree on something.

I feel the balance on BCF has been updated.

So lads, what do you think about that prison guard brutality eh?

I agree on the kids as well. Beat seven shades of shit out of the little bastards and see who wants to que jump then. Johnny can't walk on two broken legs.

I've had a lot to do with kids diagnosed with ADHD, ODD (oppositional Defiance Disorder) and Asperger syndrome and in my opinion, most of them are taking the piss out of the system. OK they may have a problem but they quickly learn how to use their diagnosis in their favour and control the adults, they completely understand that political correctness is their friend even if they are not familiar with the term itself.

Although these conditions have been studied for over two hundred years, psychologists were not comfortable diagnosing them until about 20 years ago. Even today, psychologists all too often give a wrong diagnosis only to change it a few years later.

There are adults who need the same treatment. Mind you some Prison Officers are doing a fine job administering to the ADHD brigade.

On some occasions, such a diagnosis is a label and so, at times, an excuse! I dont believe the problem would be no where near as bad as it is if some of the kids had better upbringings and were actually taught how to be silent and patient as well as well behaved!
Bad behaviour is rewarded at school, they get extra attention and if they are at secondary school, they get to go down to the local college etc Never found it very fair Confused

Also the crazy thing about this suggestion is that surley not all kids with such a diagnosis would find waiting in a que a problem.

Can't we all be left to deal with situations as they arise, not preped with how things should be depending on what bracket you fall into?

Most people would not mind someone skipping ahead if it was apparent there was a'real' issue.

I suspect the real reason is that someone at the theme park brought in an outside Diversity and Access Consultant who told them that they were racist/sexist/bigoted/anti-everything for not having such a policy.

Everyone at the theme park PRIVATELY thought 'what a load of horse-shit', but were terrified of being sued by ambulance chasers so took the easy option and brought in said policy.

Slightly changing topic here, but still in the same vein of others...I knew a man who used to blame dyslexia for his inability to get ahead in work, said it held him back...I encouraged him to go for a test once and for all (because deep in the depth of my consciousness I truly didn't believe he had it - considering his depth of knowledge on the English language and use of different words in his vocab.)

And guess what? It came up conclusive evidence he didn't have dyslexia at all. So suddenly he had nothing to blame he lack of academic skills on, but himself...!

Funnily enough, I was in the dog-house for a wee while after (after all it was my idea to go for the test).

I reckon 'most' of these childhood 'illnesses' are excuses...I do believe that there must be some exceptions...and I do believe that a lot of them will be grown out of too.

Probably true, and even when they exist they are just part of being you.

My brother is dyslexic, I tick a load of the boxes for it (but never tested), but whether I am or not is pretty irrelevant. My spelling is rubbish, but whether I have an excuse or not, it is still rubbish and I wouldn't be any use in a job in publishing checking spelling.

All th ebest

I think a lot of the issues surrounding things like dyslexia arise from the well-meaning but incredibly inaccurate idea that every child is a winner and noone ever loses.

If one child/community/ethnic group performs less well than another, it must be down to an -ism or a syndrome!

Diagnosing behavioural problems as medical conditions is fucked up in my opinion.

Rewarding kids with behavioural problems with special treatment, is just going to encourage them to misbehave, rather than get them to accept that they have control over their behaviour and need to change.

I know of a school, where a third of kids were 'statemented' which meant they were labeled with various labels which secured the school extra funding. Thats not a special school, thats a school with an intake of local kids and a third of them were being diagnosed (spuriously in my opinion) with various labels with a medical flavour that were actually about behavioural issues.

Drug them.

Those who genuinely have problems won't fuck around causing trouble anymore, plus it'll stop their mates wanting to get the same medical diagnosis.

Could also chemically castrate them at the same time to avoid any health problems being passed on.

Drugging them just stores up problems for the future.

I think they need strict discipline at home and in school until they start behaving.

I personally think that kiddy concentration camp borstals would be better than putting them on drugs.

Drugs are fine in theory, but if used incorrectly (which is most of the time) the side effects end up dwarfing the original symptoms. In my opinion.

In particular, the deluded belief that more of a drug is more effective than less of a drug, is very damaging. In my opininon, and the opinion of mental health charity mencap. Getting the right dosage for managing behaviour requires monitoring and skill, so its easier to just whack them on the max dosage which is then described as a low dosage, when it aint, and side effects ensue.

The worrying thing is, a large proportion of the UK population, are addicted to mood altering pharmaceuticals.

In particular, the using of legal drugs for purposes they were not tested or intended for, has a massively damaging effect on people. Pharmaceutical companies take a snake oil approach of marketing their wonder drugs as a cure all.

Recently big drug company Pfizer, was fined a huge amount of money for doing this.
