Excess Smoke From The Exhaust

Hi just to say hello and I need some help a mate of mine has a 50cc peugeot speedfight 2 the problem is it kicks out alot of smoke everytime its used does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this and how it can be remedied? thanks I look forward to your help.

What's it like when you've been riding it for a while? 2 strokes smoke like mad when they're cold (especially with the choke on) but that's a lot to do with the cold air and well, because it's a 2 stroke

I think it's because it's one of those '2 stroke' enginethimgamibobs? I remember a thread on some forum somewhere where they talked about it lots.... Oh does that bike come with a space saver?

its knackered mate, really shouldnt do that at all. i would think that the red powerband has snapped (or maybe stretched too much)this will be causing the power oil to get into the engine causing the smoke.

so needs to take a wander to a mechanic, tell them your powerband is failing/failed and so you need help to stop the oil getting onto the piston.

alternatively i know someone who wants a scooter and would be prepared to fix it, how does £20 and a bottle of white lightning sound?

Thanks for the replies folks, to those who said the engines meant to smoke you would note i did say 'excess smoke'. To the bloke who said £20 and a bottle of white light'ning thanks but no, lol. To the person who said a problem with the oil thats what i was thinking and to all the other sensible suggestions I thankyou most heartedly and will pass on all of the suggestions to my friend who i'm sure will appreciate all of your help, but any other suggestions will be greatly recieved.

Is it standard? Does it wreck spark plugs often?

Could be oil pump issues. Could also be that it is running rich (which would suggest someone has played with the jetting).

One conventional geared bikes it could also be the crank seal on the gearbox side, but not so sure with scooters.

Excess smoke could be down to low qualiy 2 stroke oil, Like kickstart said, oil pump might not be working or the jets have been changed or it could have 2 stroke mixed with petrol at the wrong ratio? we dont know.

Of course i know its a single god...
Could also be a coked up exhaust, bikes with coked up zausts always smoke worse than clear free flowing ones..

Speedfight 50s are very smokey compared to other 2t 50's, but it should only be for the first 5 minutes from(from cold). If it's constantly smokey, maybe he put the wrong oil in it.

no the oil's right I checked that but I reckon it could be either a leak of some sort or the oil - petrol ratio thats wrong, thing is its like it all the time and its just a hassle to my mate

I agree with wilson123 (for a change). They are fairly smokey. What year is it? The newer ones have a none adjustable pump unlike the older ones which have a cable operated one. It just means that the pump is stuck on full all the time making it smokey.

Sometimes the type of 2 stroke oil makes it smoke. Try changing brands.

Have you checked to see if it is burning water? Sometimes the head gasket leaks, as it's only a thin rubber ring. They are fairly easy to replace and are cheap.
