 |
|
Well as from 1 hours time, we can no longer buy 100 watt conventional light bulbs, nor can we buy any conventional bulbs that are opaque in colour. And they are planning year on year until 2012 to phase out other wattages of bulbs, when in 2012 all bulbs will have to be energy saving.
Who gives a toss I hear you ask, they save you money.
They do.
But they don't work with dimmer switches, I have dimmers in the living room and all the bedrooms, I always have all my life and they don't f****ing work. So in 3 years time, its night night kids at 60WATT glare, instead of just being able to turn the lights down until they are barely on, so they can all see to get in to bed.
I can't believe no one is mentioning this more, perhaps its just me that just uses a dimmer switch. I am typing this now in a dimmed room.

How about stock up on them then, they are so cheap you could just start buying 20 odd a week and put them in your loft. That'll keep you going for a good few years after they have gone out of circulation!
I think all but 3 bulbs in my house are energy savers, and thats only cause you can see the ones in the living room and energy savers are ugly at the moment!

I've quite a few boxes of 100W bulbs up in my loft. It's not like the phasing out of incandescent bulbs has been a secret. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

The real lie is they contain mercury and cadmium, and the energy consumed in their recycling is more than they save in their lifetimes.
Same with LEDs, it takes 20,000 hours of continuous running before a unit becomes carbon-offsets the energy used in its manufacture, which in case you didn't know involves baking semiconductors to a metal plate in an oven at about 5000 degrees then encapsulating it in plastic. Byproducts are heavy metals and poisons such as gallium arsenide, copper and aluminium silicate, all of which are horrendously expensive to store and dispose of safely.

*Runs to the shop to buy proper bulbs*
I thought everyone knew about the Mercury? I was under the impression it was common knowledge, yet when I mentioned it to people at work they appeared to have no idea.
It's exactly the same scam as hybrid cars being "green". Takes far more energy to mine the material for the batteries, refine it, put it in the car, then dispose of it than it would to create a run a normal car with a normal engine.

Sadly, I know someone who is a supporter of the ban. Her whole house has had CFL for a few years now because of the 'environment' and the (pathetic) saving on her electrickery bill.
Every time I visit I think I'm going blind.
