Hi guys as some of you may know my bike is gonna get written off.
Hopefully I will have around 2.5 grand to spend.
I need the bike to commute daily a total of about 20 miles.

I have been thinking of

00-02 fireblade
00- onward aprilia mille
00nonwards triumph Daytona 955
00 onward zx12 r
Early busa

I am 6ft6 so want a large ish bike I know I won't fit perfectly on any bike.
Any thoughts on serviceing costs and general running costs on any of these bike? Or ant big problems that I may want to stay away from one foe any reason.

Any suggestions for these at any other most. Welcome.

I am asking early because as soon as this is sorted I need a bike ASAP .

Cheers again for your time guys

although the daytona 600's are brilliant. the 955 isnt.
it has terrible electrics, even brand new ones have huge problems within weeks, you'll have nothing but trouble with it.

guy i knows got a 95 or 96 fireblade. which is horrendously nice and i think you can pick them up for about 2 grand or so.

id go for a zx10r, fireblade or early busa ( because the new ones are ugly and my mate said there boring to drive )

cheers, leigh.

What sort of commute? Can imagine the Busa being a PITA through town - likewise the Mille which is also likely to be fairly thirsty.

for commuting do you really need a sports bike?
nothing against them, prefer them infact.
I use a GS500 for commuting, cheap to repair and maintain, then use an R6 for weekends and fun.
Even a CB400 SF would be a good fun commuter Smile
also if you arent too fussy, the Hyosung GT650/650R are pretty nice, fast-ish big bikes in sporty or naked

I did think about two bikes but as its not a.massive journey I would rather one bike as new and reliable as poss.well within my budget.

Been looking at millle can get them quite cheap compared to others?any reason fir this?

They are a sexy bike with charecter too!seems too good,to be true me thinks !

dunno what the build is like with the millie but the rs is pretty crap if not highly maintained but if you can get one cheap enough see what you have left over and maybe get 2? or get the millie cheap then do it up spending your extra

Big Aprilias tend to be very well made, the electrics were a bit iffy at times though and for the love of god, do not let the battery get low Smile

My Futura was a bit big for really tight car park manoeuvres but otherwise was fine in town traffic, it was a little softer on the power delivery and quite a bit less extreme a riding position though.

I must add, my GS500 copes with NSL dual carriage ways just fine as long as I'm prepared to sit at 70, wet windy weather can be a bit miserable though.

I would stay away from the busa unless you liked being cramped. I'm 6'3 and it felt really cramped. The blade is fairly good, although it is still cramped up, it's not uncomfortable.

Also dont buy the blade with the silly fairings (05/06 i think) Get the 07, i did. Very Happy

I have a gen 1 busa and cramped is the one thing it isn't. I'm 6'1" and I have tonnes of room. The only difference from standard in the seating department is I have fitted rear sets which have stopped my knees aching.

To me it was very deceiving. It looked like it had loads of space, but when i test rode one it felt my feet were too close to my body. It was like been sat on a small toilet.

Different people, different opinions. In the end you have to make up your own mind by riding any bike yourself to choose.

Problem is you never test ride a bike long enough to find all the faults.

I'd bought a Goldwing before I discovered the auto volume control of the stereo was crap over 90mph Whistle

Spose I'd argue a 1000cc VTwin Mille isn't really a commuter. You'd need to really want one?

Test ride?

Buy my VTR.
Under £2k.

Less than 20k on the clock.
Twin carbon Remus exhausts.
Leather tank cover.
Rides sweet.
...and I love her!

why let her go?

I'm old before my time and I've bought a Moto Guzzi Norge for 2-up touring!!!
*cue the abuse*

PM if you're interested. Genuine sale as I don't have room in my garage for 2 bikes - and I'm not leaving one outside!!!!

Early Mille's are very well made aside from the wee bolts which tend to corrode rather quickly.

Buy the Mille!

My RSV https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=172618&highlight=rsv

She is an 03 RSV-R, the gold wheels are not to everyone's taste.. I'm selling up soon and getting a Street Triple, it's been a great bike in the short time I've owned her!
