How many horses would be left?

I have been looking at an early 90's kawasaki KLE500 and they are meant to be 49 horsepower and I was wondering how many horsepowers it might have decreased by and do you think I could get away with riding one unrestricted with a 33bhp licence?

I know people always say the police never check up and stuff but it would be good to know if I'm doing anything wrong.

If you want to know for sure get it dyno tested, plus that way if enough horses have escaped you'll have proof it's not too powerful for your license if you ever do have a run in with the police.

You'd get a paper readout no doubt as prood from the dyno.

Hi

While it will no doubt have lost a bit of power (and no doubt the 49hp claim is fairly optimistic) I suspect it will still be well over 33hp.

There isn't really anything that is proof it is under 33hp, but a print out of a dyno chart is as good as anything.

Yeah I didn't really think it would have, perhaps I'll go for the MT500 I've had my eye on.

Yeh, I imagine for it to lose 16 horses it would have to been not looked after and maintained very well.

One suggestion is to find out how to restrict the bike yourself, sometimes it's a case of a few washers. From what I'm told the restriction certificate doesn't really prove much if you do get collared and it'll be dyno'ed anyway to make sure you haven't removed any restriction kit. Could save forking out £200 to FI International or looking for a different bike.

It would be worth getting the bhp checked on it or any bike your not sure about- and if it needs restricting, your better off doing it A friend of mine passed her test when she was 17, never got her bike restricted and was never caught but a thing called 'sods law' can occur Plus theres the insurance problem, license points etc.

Yeah, this is true but the trouble is, as Bellebot says, the extra 200 odd quids I'd have to include on my already low (£1000 for everything budget) is going to be a problem.

I think either the DIY restrictors or none will have to do unless I can find a good cheapy !!

Seen a few kits on ebay etc Also some bikes come with them already fitted- but I know its difficult trying to find a decent bike with a limited budget- but one will come along
