hi guys,

The Gs has been feeling a bit funny recently, something i havent been able to put my finger on for a coulpe of weeks.
Some of you may remember a couple of weeks ago i had a slight oil change issue Laughing , but after i changed the oil it was running weird (as said above, ie, would take alot longer than usual to get up to speeds around the 40 mark) i checked the plug and it was white, indicating low quality oil used according to the manual (i did use asdas own cheap stuff as it was leaking at the time).

Anyways, i put some castrol GTX in and changed the plug to the correct one (a different story Rolling Eyes ) and it ran great, would go up to 60 and then even 70 with a tail wind Very Happy. Went out for a bit of a ride yesterday and on the way back it started feeling rough again, i assumed it was the wind as it was particularly windy yesterday. But this morning i started it up to go to college and as it was cold i could see that there were some exhaust coming from the bottom of the pipe, turns out theres a whole about the size of a penny, i think maybe i had run over a bit of gravel and it bounced up and left a hole there, i just dont know Sad

sorry if this has been a bit long winded just to ask but, could that be the cause of my problems? Confused

Definately could be.

Holes in exhausts are not good as exhausts are designed specifically for that engine and any differences e.g. holes, length, size change the way the engine runs.

hi,
whereabouts is the hole on the exhaust?
one way to see if it is this hole thats causing the problems, is to do a temporary repair to the exhaust.
get someone to weld it up or....
get a couple of coke cans or baked beans cans are even better.
cut off the top & bottom with a tin opener.
cut open the remaining tube with tin snips or those cheap scissors that cut anything.(supposedly)
wrap the now flat (ish) sheet of aluminiun round the exhaust a couple of times.
some of that exhaust repair stuff might help, but some of the products arent much good.
(some exhaust repair bandage will do the same thing)
clamp it on with a couple of jubilee clips.
that should seal the hole if done right.
cheers,
GAZ

the hole is towards the end of the exhaust, thanks, sounds like a really good way to find out if thats the problem. I'll try that 2morrow if i can get hold of some cans.

Thanks for the help

That's rusted through not been hit by anything. Patch it up with a baked bean can or beer can and some jubilee clips and see if it runs better. If so Time for a new exhaust.
