My old mans 2005 Hyo 650. Battery been marginal for a while, died properly a week ago - tried bump starting but no joy. Got it going via a jump start from a car, engine off, started no problem. Bought new maintenance free battery and fully charged it, 13.2v after standing, but the bike wont start. Dash lights up as normal but when the starter is engaged it sounds like its trying to turn but the engine wont turn ie sounds like it hits compression then stops and wont go any further. Starter gets warm and battery voltage is depressed after trying to start, 12.7v and when 'cranking'. Cant do a load test as there isnt a light switch.

Prime suspects? Im guessing starter gear or the starter itself. Any tests/suggestions/experience?
Thanks!

sounds stupid but my GT used to "not start" like that.
What model is it?
If you put in 2nd, roll it backwards till it locks up, then try starting it.. i know mine used to be a bastard, but when i did that it worked..1/2 the time anyway.
Try new spark plugs?

Thank you! Worked perfectly. Its the GT model. Is this an issue with these bikes? Had only heard of a weak clutch.

its not an issue as such.. i just found it a bitch to start so tried that..seemed to work alot Smile
Problems with the bike are the older ones, swing arm fails.. bit of a bugger, and the lower cc models have cam chain tensioner issues.

As far as im aware, there aren't many problems IF you keep on top of maintenance!

125 also. When I go to get on it I used to start and then jump on, till false neutrals took over and my bike was once on the ground as it jumped forward. Knocked me over to Embarassed Confused had to buy a near gear lever for that one. Happened a few times after only lucky I sit on it and hold the breaks now. Its just stopped not started earlier. This is when engine is in use . Went to get stuff earlier on it and ended up sitting there like a twat hitting start and nothing happening. I kicked up and down ths stand and it did then so it maybe connected there.

well mate, i always start clutch in..no matter what, my old bike had the idea of thinking clutch is in and jerking forward when i hit start.. even AFTER the shop looked at it Sad

Problems with the 125s..
Cam Chain Tensioners...get erm sorted big time...

Also if possibly, up your chain and sprocket set to the 250cc ones, 520 pitch chain.. lasts alot longer, doesnt wreck as quick mate.

Apart from that, 125 GT are very very nice Very Happy any mods?

I will get it sorted I hate being stranded and panicing,. has blue flame exhaust . I havnt really done anything to it apart from a hyosung top yoke cover (which looks perfect for the bike).
