At a glance, I'd have to say that's wrong, as the rear fairing should fit flush to the bottom of the seat.

From grab rails or maybe hard luggage rack (as in base for top box)?

Doesn't look like there is a part missing. It looks more like your seat isn't fitted properly.

Have you tried popping the seat off and refitting it?

If you don't yet know how it's always a good idea to learn how to take your seat on and off. When you put it back on hopefully it will all just go on flush as it's meant to.

Or the rear fairing might not be on properly, thus not coming up to meet the seat.

Take the seat off, make sure the fairing's screwed on everywhere it's meant to be and then stick the seat back on.

thanks for the help guys
just looked on the hornet site and think it might be for the hooks that swivel out under the seat to fit through that gap?
but i still think it doesn't look right

will take the seat off and look at how the fairings fitted and see if i can find anything wrong tonight
cheers

Do you mean the gap that runs all the way along, or just the little cut-out in the middle?

The cutout in the middle has a metal hook behind it, to hang your helmet from. You can then put the seat back on and it effectively locks you helmet on the bike.

If you mean the gap all he way along, then could just be that your seat isn't quite on properly. I have a gap, but probably only 1/2 that size. Does your seat bar it's weight on the subframe by little rubber blocks under the seat? Could be that the gap closes up a bit with the weight of a person on it...

thanks for the replies Thumbs Up
took the rear fairing off and nothing seems to be wrong with that all bolts and fixings on in the right places and everything.

did try to see if the seat would fit on any other different ways but couldnt see how it would, will have another go tommorow to see if anything is in the way of it closing or something silly like that lol

cheers

I could well be wrong, but if it's anything like the seat on the Hornet 900 I had, it looks like it might just need a good hard shove into place.

Just a thought, do you have loads of crap under the seat and does the seat clikc into place with out pushing down on it. If the answers to those questions are 'no' and 'yes', then it is probably meant to be like that. Maybe also worth checking that the side panel is fitted correctly, loosen the bolts and see if it pops into place.

Cheers
