A few weeks ago I was in an accident wearing a Caberg Trip helmet, and all I can say is: Avoid this helmet like the plague!

As soon as I hit the ground, the flip front popped completely open, exposing my face. Luckily, I then slid on my back, but had I gone on my front I could have torn my face to shreds; or worse still, the open lid could have been caught be something and jarred by neck back. Thumbs Down

I was lucky in this instance, however, I think that a helmet that comes open so easy is of no use to someone in a motorcycle accident.

Just passing on the sentiment!

They are only tested as an open face helmet.

The chin bar offers little to no protection.

Aren't they one of the only flip-up lids that are designed to be ridden with the front up?

My dad had/still has a Shoei flip-up helmet, said it was really comfy and suprisingly quiet. Not designed to be ridden with the front up so i'm assuming that it will offer more protection in an off that your first hand experience with the Caberg.

So unless you don't mind wearing a regular helmet than have a look at the Shoei. The Nolan's are supposed to be really good if you like that type of lid.

I've crashed in a Caberg Justissumo GT and it worked quite well.
If the Trip actually isn't certified as a full-face, then I'd definitely avoid it on that basis, though I had thought it was a 'proper' full face.

I have a trip and a jussisumo ( or how ever its spelt ) the trip is noisey heavy and feels like it would offer no protection,
I like the idea of flip fronts but like anything it will be good in some accidents and not in others i guess

Sorry to hear you had a bad one timmyhigh, however I have also recently crashed while wearing a Trip- head on with a car, slowish, but ended with me over handlebars and head into the road before coming to a stop. My Trip helmet served me great.

It fitted very well, and at £110 was well worth the money in my view - infact I will have no issues in replacing the Caberg Trip with another.

I'm sure there will be many more along soon to give other views, in favour of and to argue against open, flip up and full face helmets - but I think in any given incident due to all the variables that will always be present, there will always be a case where whatever the design, a helmet may not perform as expected.

As far is im aware.

Non of the Caberg flip fronts are tested as a full face lid.

The Shoei multitec is tested as a full face, so the chin bar and mechanism offers roughly the same protection as a full face lid.
