Right hand turns

Just had a convo with the guy out of our DT dept. and he said he's uncomfortable with right hand turns. When I told him I was too he seemed relieved. I'm not too bad at turning right now but I'm not exactly comfortable.

There was a thread on this a couple of months ago. I was just wondering if many other people have this problem? The funny thing is that if you think back to learning, didn't we all have to do a u-turn?.

Anyways, just a thought.

yeah same i can scrape my pegs either side but i find my left side more comfortable to get down

I used to find lefts more intimidating to do quickly because if I overshot it/came off I'd likely be going into oncoming traffic.

Now I dont have a preference for either, can do lefts or right exactly the same and they both feel natural.

i find rights easier as i get more practise with them, roundabouts etc.

It really can't be that hard to find the right line?

I know it's more scary risking running in to the curb if you can't turn tight enough to the right rather than just slightly crossing the white line turning to the left. But - in which case you're probably going too fast.

I enjoy turning right a whole lot more for this reason. I have to absolutely force my body even though it's screaming against me not to take the wider turn and get my wheels closer to that curb.

Could be because you're going against the camber of the road aswell.

Think I'm more bias to right turns, don't think I hang off properly on lefts, peg goes down more regularly.

I suck at right handers too vs lefts. It just feels more natural to hang off left. Its not a road thing either, I was the same at a trackday at donni a couple of weeks ago, took me a while but I got going round them pretty well, but not as well as if it was left its odd.

That is because you "think" you are holding the bike with your arms.
Just relax your arms at left handers and try the same thing at right handers after you feel confident with "almost" no hander left turns.
Actually it is like riding at cross winds. Upper body relax, bum and legs do the job.

USA or UK/Australia...?
Right/Left turns are not the same...
one is long... the other short...
right turns (USA) (left UK) can be tricky because you almost have to look behind you in the turn, to check for traffic...
this takes your eyes off of the direction you are heading...
left long turns you can see more both directions...

I prefer right turns. But usually riders are more confident on one or the other.

Looking at the strips on rear tyres (where existent), in almost all cases you'll notice that one side will be slightly wider than the other, which tells you which side the rider is more confident leaning into. Go to any used bike dealer and most the bikes will exhibit this trend.

from another thread, I saw a chart on page 42 at the top. It seems statistically speaking, Left hand turns are more likely to cause an accident. Could be something to do with humans finding it harder to do left turns on average or something.

Find it easier leaning off to the left. Always feel my head is going into oncoming traffic on the right, on the road...on the track i dont have a problem...

Im far better at left hand turns. i can really lean into left bends but when it comes to right handers i far more concious. on some of them it almost feels like there is a wobble in the front wheel so i ease off. i have put it down to the camber

I'm much more comfortable going left than right. Dunno why, even back when I was a kid on my mountain bike I could happily go a long way over left but not nearly as much right.

Only thing with RH turns I don't like or didn't like more to the point is if you didn't get the line right you could risk getting your head taken off by oncoming traffic whilst leant over

Taking them wider, closer to the curb means more lean which means more fun and no bumping cars with ya head

Both LH and RH are as good as each other

EDIT: I'm on about sweeping bends rather than RH at junctions

I am now really crap on roundabouts, I find myself going round in the wrong gear, often too slow, and sometimes even wobbly though I put this down to having a crash on a roundabout.

I would be much happier we went round them from the left!

I'm a bit confused, the OP was posting about left/right hand turns, you lot seem to have gone off at a tangent about left/right hand corners. I thought he was talking about junctions rather than general cornering?
