Any of you lot bought from a dealer and never actually seen it in the flesh?

Like had one delivered?

I'm trying to find a supermoto but there just isn't any near where I live, they're all miles away. I don't want to go miles away to see a bike, if it's from a dealer it's usually good to go right?

Only thing is, if something fucks up and it's under a 12 month warranty or something, have to get it back to the dealer?

Yep, bought a bike on eBay went to the house gave a once over and was as described so handed over the cash. Not the best situation really as was worried that a lot of time and effort was put into getting there and hoped that it was for me.

If I were buying a bike that I had already owned and new whats what then I would probably do it again. As far buying a bike that I have no idea of what its like as in a different style then probably no.

That's a bit different, you bought off ebay and you went and saw the bike ha.

I mean going off photos from a dealer, not private, paying for it on the phone and having it delivered.

Not really, BIN and could have easily arranged for someone to collect as 80 miles away but being tight I dragged the missus in the car to drop me off. I stood by my obligation of buying it as per eBay rules. I didn't even test ride until I had paid the money. As said not the best situation.

Dealer bikes are more likely to be honest(ish) than a private seller.

no and i never would unless it was a new unregistered bike

Are you taking about used bikes?i guess you must be.

You`d think it`d be good to go wouldn`t you....but it`s not true. They`re just in it for the profit so most of the time all they`ve done is give it a good clean then put it on display. They``ll make sure it`s in "safe" working order before you get it (or tell you it`s "sold as seen" if they`re not prepared to put it straight)..but that`s all they`ll do.
If their mechanics know there`s something wrong with the engine,or something serious needs fixing soon...they wont tell you about it so you need to trust your instincts, not the dealer.

Yeah you will.
Unless it`s a nationwide dealer with different outlets across the country......you`ll have to get it back to where you bought it from to use the warranty.

if it`s a cheapo bike you could take a risk i suppoose...but if it`s a few grand you need to go and check it out first imo.

I'm looking for a second hand KTM 6 something. There's various different models up to a 690 I think but it will be one of them. Looking on an 05 plate so around the £3,500 mark.

I bought my CAT-C Blade off ebay without EVEN seeing it. Negociated a price, asked for his sort-code and number (it was a honda dealer selling the bike on behalf of one of its mechanics so I KNEW where he was... except it was 160 miles away from where I lived at that time) and within a week, the bike was mine. Had it delivered and that was that. Was a few niggles such as that the second HISS key wasn't sent with the bike, but it came with a full HPI, service history (a load of recepits) and extras. I gambled on it since it was about £700 cheaper than dealer bikes of higher mileage and that they offered to throw delivery in.

The same story applies to my other ebay purchase (ZX6R).

Either way, you just have to instill your trust on the seller. Mine sounded like an honest reasonable guy judging on his intonation and well spoken mannerisms. I got a call back from a dealer about an inquiry i made on a same blade and let's just say he was a bit of a bell end!

I was in one bike shop buying new and knew of deals that were going around the country. The dealer who's shop I was in didn't want to match one of the deals ( only a few hundred quid and a few extras in it) so I rang one of the other dealers and paid for the bike over the phone in front of the first dealer. he looked a bit cheesed off.

I bought my last bike with never seeing this model in the flesh let alone never even test riding one. I decided i wanted a cruiser as i'd never had one in 30 years of biking, but i wanted one with shit loads of power. So i went to my dealer and put a £1,000 deposit on a Suzuki Intruder M1800R after only seeing pictures of one and reading road tests from the States.
It was quite a gamble as the bike was 9K, but i was very happy with it and kept it nearly 3 years. Only chopped it in a few months ago for my Bandit cos i got bored with only so so handling.

I`d be ok buying something "that new" blind but something 2+ years old, warranty recently expired,MOT coming up etc etc....i`d need to see it,ride it, and properly check it over to be satisfied.

Come to think of it i reckon there`s a fair bit of luck involved buying ANY bike regardless of age ...unless you take it for a full independant vehicle inspection.
I bought a showroom condition "nearly new" rsvr with 1k on the clocks over it`s 12 month life and within the first month i had to take it to a dealer coz it had an ignition coil failure.Glad i went for a bike that was still under warranty or id`ve been hit with a repair bill for about 600 quid on top of the 6k i just spent on it.

I bought my missus v reg divvy 600 from a dealer over the phone. I'd only seen pictures on autotrader.

I asked him if it had been dropped and he said he couldn't honestly say no, but there were no signs of it.
Did it smoke etc etc. Came across as honest so I bought it.

I told him I wanted it delivered on a certain day (her birthday). He did. He didn't charge for delivery and he only took £100 deposit until I saw it and than paid him the rest. What a star Thumbs Up
