How long does your gear usually last?

Do you buy and replace yearly, every season add a new piece of kit to the collection or just throw out when thread bare and mouldy?

Im still wearing the same gloves i did my cbt with, bought about 5 pairs since but they just dont feel right. Got some lobster ones for winter but how the hell anyone rides with those i'll never know.
My jacket is 3 years old but still feel good, trousers the same age any my boots are 4 years old.
So i only by new stuff when its threadbare.

Been riding for 5 years now, and have gone through a few pairs of summer gloves. They seem to wear through on the palm where the thumb is. However, I still have my original pair of winter gloves which I now wear all year round. I have tried others but nothing can match up to these in terms of comfort or warmth. The bloke who I bought my boots from on eBay chucked these in for free as he forgot to list them, turns out they're a £100 a pair. There's no way I would have paid that much for a pair of gloves at the time, but when these do eventually wear out I'll do just that.

Got my Sidi Black Rain Evos second hand before my test. They still fit nicely and hold the water out. I also wear these all year round (although they get a bit sweaty in the summer).

Bought a KBC helmet and this is as good as new. It has a sturdy visor mechanism (it will stay up at any speed). My Caberg, while having more stuff (ie flip-front, sun visor etc), is starting to show signs of wear already and the build quality is nothing like as good.

Got a Richa textile jacket before I did my test. This has held up very well, the only problem I have had is the zip tag breaking off.

I bought a pair of Richa leather trousers for cheap from eBay which were pretty battered when I got them. Now they are almost ready to chuck out. Admittedly, it doesn't help that I kneel down in them to work on the bike etc.

The main thing on my shopping list is definitely a pair of textile trousers. My main gripe with leathers is lack of pockets. Everything else has a good couple of years left to live yet.

I tend to have two or three of everything in various stages of wear, because like previous posters if something seems cheap I might buy it.
It's good to have everyday kit you don't mind getting wet/mucky and something a bit smarter too.

It's almost another thread really, but I bought some winter gloves by sportex which are still near enough waterproof and very warm - and they are 20 years old this year - not least because they only come out for half the year or less.
Good bike kit is practically a lifetime investment especially leather stuff.

Helmet's on it's way out after two years, boots aren't too bad after two gears considering I've crashed in them, and glove I've had for two years are still fine despite being in the same crash as the boots.

I change gear when I encounter a notable change in size! But I've been wearing the same SMX-R boots in all seasons since 2005, likewise, the SMX Jacket I've had since 2005 and going strong. Other than that, I wear my gear until i know there's a very close mate that's about to start off biking and rather than ebaying it, i'd donate it to them. Still have some HG gloves from when I first started riding back in 2003.

I wear most of my gear for a year or so then bang it on ebay and put the money towards new stuff.I`ve had my gloves for 3 years though and even though one of the thumbs has a massive hole in it i still havent got another pair.Dont ask me why though.

I have the same boots from 2003, same jacket from 2003, I got rid of my helmet that I bought in 2002 in 2008 and my winter gloves are now about 18 months old.

All my kit is reasonably cheap and I prefer not to replace. I couldn't give a shit what I look like on it, as I do it for the ride not otherwise. Unlike most.

Jacket was only start to show wear after 18 months when got ruined in crash, pants were practically as new (in fact had only washed them a week or so before).

Boots still used despite crash (just some scuffs) and all they need is a visit from the OdourEaters

I'll just replace as needed.

Well I'd actually had my leather jacket since the '80's and only got rid of it after my accident in 1998. When I replaced it with the textile jacket I still have today.

My leather jeans have to be pushing 14 years now, the same with my winter gloves, which I rarely ever wear now (since I can afford a car for winter nowadays), and my boots.

I guess the lid is the only thing that gets updated, if it gets a bashing (in whatever sense that happens to be).

Trousers were 2nd hand 2 years ago, still Ok.
Winter gloves £19.99 3 years ago, still going strong.
Sidi boots 2 years old. Still as good as new despite being worn everyday.

Given that i still have my old pair of steel toe capped trail wellies that are 30+ years old. Ok they have been resoled, but still keep the feet dry as the day they were made

Still got a pair of 30 year old waterproofs in the garage that i use if i need to roll on the floor under the bike when wet and cold.

My current crop of gear I've had nearly 18 months, well jacket and pants.

Akito jacket £55 - will easily last another 18 months

Koord pants £45 (loads of different small brands stick there badge on the same pants ) - ripped the lining on the inside of the crotch so they leak when riding in the wet, not funny when I take them off at work

Some HG Blader gloves which are now showing signs of wear after around 1 year - will be looking for something similar soon

Some 3 finger winter gloves which aren't broken in yet so will do nicely

Some Astars AFK summer gloves which I've worn loads and still look in great condition.

AGV Ti-Tech for spring/summer/autumn - just keep the lining washed regularly


But in the last 18 months I'm on to my seciond pair of boots, had some RST Vortex, fairly cheap, the soles just gave up on those, now wearing some Nitro NB-31's

Some kit is over 20 years old that I haven't used much and some kit is a few months old. If it is worn out it goes to the spare gear section in the garage fro when my main gear is piss wet through or I take a pillion who hasn't got any stuff. lids i tend to change every 3-4 years, but this one is coming up to 5 years old, bt it still feels snug and hasn't been abused so will keep it a bit longer.

I've been riding almost 2 years now!! Where did the time go

Still using my original gloves from my CBT in the summer, although they are falling apart now, and winter gloves I bought last winter in the winter.

Still use my original textile thick jacket and trousers (buffalo) in good condition, my summer light leather jacket I got a year ago for town and finally my boots for long journeys! Those boots I bought about the same time as my CBT (£135 I think, they're fairly good), but those are starting to show some serious wear now

Finally, my original £50 helmet lasted me about 6 months I think. I accidentally dropped it from my hand to the concrete pavement and it left an incredible dent. Since then I've been using my Caberg trip flip front It's lasting well but I'm sure I'll have to replace it next year.

Got a textile jacket on 5 years old now and it's still fine but needs a good clean.
Leather jacket is about 2 years old but only gets warn on a big ride or warm weather.
Just about to replace draggins about 4 years old because they are litterally falling apart. Can see me sack through the hole in the crotch

Gloves I go through a pair a year give or take and boots are also 5 years on but starting to show nasty signs of wear.

When it shits itself I buy something else unless I spot something I like at the right price

My current Leather is 3 years old - I'd still be wearing my old leather if an accident hadnt gutted it.

My summer gloves are just over five years old, my winter ones must be coming upto four. The rest of my kit tends to be the same kind of thing. The last thing I bought were Panniers last December and I expect them to last until I have a bad accident.

I had the same gear whilst on my scooter and got new gear for my 125cc i'm due new gear again once i pass my test, except my sidi boots which are only a few months old.

But i get stuff once it's damaged usually. my helmets flacking paint and my jacks ripped.
