1st of all I'd like to say "Hi", I registered earlier today whilst at work and had a pleasant time reading the forums
Secondly, please don't kill me because I only have a 50cc scooter!
https://technimob.free.fr/image_moto/Honda-SGX-50-Sky.gif
Thirdly I need some advice:
On the way home tonight I was travelling uphill when a 4 door family car raced up behind me (speed check said they were going 41mph). The driver pulls into the centre of the road, the front passenger hits me over the head with a glass bottle, the rear passenger punches me in the kidney, and to top it off they then used the side of the car to knock me over.
I get a partial plate, called the fuzz. Got a reference number and all that. Phone the insurance company (MCE) and they tell me I'm not covered for "vandalism" as I'm third party. Surely this isn't right? Help me, knowledgable people!
Oh and the big question: keep riding, yes or no? |

Damn, sorry to hear about that. That's crazy though, it's definitely not vandalism, they are liable for assaulting you. I'm sure there's a proper legal name for when they deliberately cause your vehicle to crash but it's not coming to me. Ah... a collision, that's what it is, which means once they drove off without stopping you have every right to prosecute.
Definitely don't give up riding though ____________________ will never give up his CG. I look at my fuel gauge more as a progress bar than a fuel gauge.
G: With my GSXR I do often effectively use it as a scooter with a clutch in town.
ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston? |

Get back onto the phone with MCE and tell them that you were knocked off your bike, by the car.. That then failed to stop.
Its been reported to the police.
If they still fail to act get onto one of the no win no fee lot and get them to take it on.
As well as reporting MCE to the Ins Ombudsman
As to keeping riding, only you can answer that one. |
Just got back from talking with MCE, I have a claim number now and the woman was really apologetic for their previous refusal to help. They won't pay for repairs or for a new bike, but they advised I talk to a solicitor. Thanks for your help
EDIT: Raised the issue with the Motor Insurers' Bureau. |

At least its getting sorted, good to you for not giving up mate
I'll stay clear of Sidcup me thinks, tbh how much of this shite ever happens? I think unfortunately to vanflyheight13 this is just unlucky one time situation, I'm really stoked. If it happens again though, brake as Crana said (Even when I'm in the car, if someone goes to overtake I always come off the accelerator a touch, so theyy'll ease pass, life isn't a race (when not in my astra) and the way some pricks drive they never give a foo about anyone than themselves..) but honestly if your in that situation its easier to say than do, you don't expect this kind of shite to happen anywhere, anytime.
Fair do's mate, keep your head-up and keep us posted |

I (and my friends) have things thrown at them, abuse from drivers/chavs, and the odd bout of criminal damage fairly often - once a month or more. The police are really not bothered with motorbikes, except pulling us up when someone's nicked one of our collevtive tax discs.
I've used my savings to buy myself a brand new bike, a Suzuki Marauder 125, it looks the part and hopefully should give me enough power to get out of a few more situations. |
That's crap mate, I'm lucky to live where I am I guess though I'm not a biker at the moment, I've never heard of anything like that happening anywhere in the country, having friends in Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire then down 'ere in London down to Bournemouth, I've never heard anyone treating bikers like shit before.
I don't know how much free time you got, but what are the other police near to you like than Sidcup stations? They should be more interested if you contact them. The police round here seem quite friendly but I haven't had to deal with them with things like this, cos it doesn't get that far lol mates and all
If all else fails write to your local MP, the local ones here have always replied and actually I've been pleasantly surprised at their response (meaning they've been in agreement..) at least if enough people highlight a problem then the feds are pressed to do something about it. Could even get the local papers involved.
Feck now I sound like a politician but if you keep quiet about it, nothing can ever be done. |

Just got home from work, and there's a letter from Bromley Police station.
They now say there's "not enough evidence" to carry on investigating, and that my case is now closed.
This is despite the fact that the camera at the junction up the road is functional, and they won't accept the various homeowner's CCTV footage as it "may have been fabricated".
Annoyed doesn't cover it. |

A nice little letter to the Chief Constable on why you feel this attempt on your life has not been properly investigated, with the hint that the papers might have to pick up the slack left by the police should have the desired effect.
Ask him "since when was cases of attemted murder involving GBH closed until solved?" ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "

The incident when I was cycling is old, and I'll think you'll agree there's a lot of animosity from a lot of motorists towards cyclists.
The polo incident happend the day beforehand, the 11th. I'd just got the steering assembly replaced when this happened, the 12th. I was literally on the way home from the garage (via a stop at my gf's).
You don't have to believe me, but you could at least try to be polite about it. Here's the letter from the police; give them a ring quoting the reference number, or do you want me to scan the paramedics report too? |

Really hate to burst your bubble here but Third Party Fire and Theft - think about it, it's covering THIRD PARTY DAMAGE, FIRE AND THEFT. Where's the third party damage, the fire or the theft?
So what the hell do you suppose MCE have done wrong? It's not covered!!
As for Sidcup - err, it's not that bad I lived there for 3 years prior to moving back to Essex, and the wife had been there 10 years prior to that, and we'd never had any trouble. |

I just phoned them up to see, I didn't really know what was covered and what wasn't. Still, it's annoying to find out that through no fault of my own I have to pay out |
