Try the Innocent railway cycle path and the park bit just East of where it crosses the road down from Craigmillar police station.

That's where two of my bikes landed up when I lived in Edinburgh.

A 125 or under motorbike or any form of dirtbike parked in clear view within a 3 mile radius of Craigmillar/Niddrie or a mile radius of the Newington end of the Innocent Railway has, and always did have (for at least the last 15 years that I know of) a life expectancy of about three days.

And the police at Craigmillar wont make any attempt to take a stolen bike off them.

For interest sakes, go have a look in the bushes either side of the tunnel on the Innocent Railway cycle path at the Holyrood park Road end. You will find an assortment of numberplates, broken bicycle and motorbike locks, empty wallets and knives.

The only thing that you could do to stop the motorcycle crime in that area would be to park up a series of Honda C90s with two pounds of C4 under the saddle wired into the ignition.

I know a few people who used to work at RUTS*, they all eventually left. They all say the same, these kids do as they please, safe in the knowledge that nobody is going to do anything about it. Their actions have no consequences so they act how they like. Some of the little fuckers even broke into RUTS and pinched one of the youth workers bikes from the locked cage.

*RUTS is a scheme where young offenders are given access to motorbikes in the hope that they will desist from pinching other peoples ones. I am fast forming the oppinion that it is a waste of time.

EDIT: A mate and I were discussing this with the local police one time. I went away with the impression (never directly expressed) that if one of said wee neds were to be found in posession of my motorcycle and found themselves on the receiving end of a good kicking. Providing it stopped just short of ABH, the case would be dealt with in a similar way to the bike thefts (as in, "Well, we can't really prove who did it but if we hear anything we'll let you know.")

the uk is far to lean on crime i think if you get caught more than once stealing bike or cars or whatever you should get your hand chopped off, they would soon stop probs or atleast hopefully make them think twice about it

It's not just the law to blame but the mentality of the current generation of knuckle draggers we have in this country.

When I visit my cousins in Holland it always strikes me how blase the Dutch are about security. They very rarely lock the front door and will happily leave expensive push-bikes in the front garden, the sort of things you could never get away with doing in this country.
