Good answers, I already bought the discs yesterday, and received them today
Thought they looked prtty fucked.
The inner vanes look like they've already been coated with black vht paint, so that's all good.
Cba to totally strip and clean the calipers. The outer edge of the piston look pretty corroded to fuck anyways. It's far enough out that it isn't a problem. But by the time I've gone through this new set of pads, an the piston is futher out, it'll probably have correded further.
In which case I'll just replace both calipers.
£35 each from Ford
This car is a bag of shit, but i love it for that reason. It's so cheap on everything ____________________

As you already know there fooked. But, is that car a ka? If it is, look at the picture and in the red circle the subframe/body mount looks fairly corroded. This can fail the mot if the tester has any clue what hes doing, failed two in recent weeks on those areas.

It is, and it does look rather corroded.
Might give it a rub down and coat it with some hammerite. Sound like a good plan?
(Fuck yeah, everyone in Workshop loves hammerite!)
I have a good friend who is a welder, so if it's fucked, he can fix it. ____________________

I've not checked the other side yet, I'll check them both thoroughly when I do the brakes.
If it's particularly bad, then I'll just have to do what I can, and then flog it asap...
I really got ripped off when I bought this pos. ____________________

Car discs are cast iron, so always look rusty, its best to tap round the circumference with a hammer,,,the rust round the edge will ping off, after that check the disc thickness, and the condition inside the vents, and the disc surface for cracks.
Remember the rust round the circumference has swollen to twice its original size, so dont think that because the rust is thick it means the disc has worn that much,
I did a pads replacement for a mate,,,he was used to bikes,,,he freaked out when he saw the rusty discs,,,went to the local garage who sold him genuine replacement discs and calipers when they werent needed,,,hundreds of pound unnecessarily.
As for painting to stop the rust forming when it isnt going to be seen,,,why bother, itll come off anyway ____________________ cbr600 |
