 |
|
I'm stripping down an H1 ZXR750, and am having trouble removing
the rear engine mount bolts.
They are 10" long coach bolts, but appear to be rusted solid in place One at the top rear of the engine, and one at the lower rear on the engine. I have managed to persuade the nuts from the threaded end of the bolt.
Tryed battering the bejesus out of 'em with a lump hammer and they wont move. They wont move when attempted to with a a torque wrench.
Anyone got any ideas. I don't want to compromise by leaving the engine in the frame when trying to clean-up and ensure the bike is in top condition.
Appreciate any advice anyone has got
Thanks

hi
this particular little nasty is common on most kawasaki's.
the bolt is a sliding fit and not threaded.
but it has a square locating part for the frame adjustment dowel and this can be confused with it apearing to be threaded.
ignore this part as it just slides out of this.
they rust on the left side as that's where the water gathers when there on the side stand
give it some heat with a blow torch if pos and try and give it a good clean hit and if pos have someone apply turning pressure at the other end.
use a drift hard wood etc if your hoping to save the thread.
try this a few times and if you get some movement apply plus gas and soak for a while.
if you just go brute force the bolt will snap and does crack the casing occasionally

Thanks for your help
I've had them soaking for a few days, and have got a bigger heat source home tonight to give it a bash. |
