Hi,
I have just been and fitted some new grips to my 125 (heated ones Thumbs Up ) and the throttle no longer returns to idle. It seems the grip is a little too tight on the plastic sleeve underneith and sticking it to the bar?

Does anyone know a way round this?
Ta Thumbs Up

Hi

It would likely need to be VERY tight to squash the plastic tube enough for it to stick.

My guess would be that the grip is either slightly longer than the original one, or slightly further on / not quite a far on and is catching on the switchgear or the bar end weight.

All the best

Keith

Hi.I was having the same problem when I fitted new bar grips to my bike. What I did is used a stanley blade, and cut a bit of the bar grips (not much because it looks awful) untill the bar grips didn`t touch the bar ends, and sorted.

i would suggest doing this , ive had the same problem myself fitting grips they turn out to be to long/short or they rub against something causing them to stick and not giving you the correct action.

Hi,
Thanks for the help Smile
Turns out they are fractionally smaller then the previous, and were running on the end of the bar. I didnt cut the end off, just didnt push it right up to the switch gear. It now springs back correctly Smile
Also put a bit of WD40 between the bar and sleeve to help things out a bit.
Thanks for the help, saved me a 30+ mile trip to take them back
Ta

Mine done this when it blew over in the wind. The throttle wouldn't return it just stayed where ever you left it. I quite liked it it was like cruise control for motorbikes and rode around with it like that for a bit. I didn't know why it was doing it though but Hadies off here took the throttle apart and it was the cable. It's fixed now though. But glad you got it sorted it sounds quite common.

I was in 2 minds to keep it as cruise control, i mainly ride A roads so would work. I was just worried id forget and leave it a full throttle or redline/valve bounce the engine. All works now, so it'll only redline when i tell it to Wink

It's an MOT failure though, isn't it?

It would not get you past an ACU scruteneer either, they always snap the throttle.

cruise control is damn useful once your used to it, all my bikes have the grips pushed up to friction with the switchgear for exactly that reason, takes all of 10 seconds to slide them back out a bit so it snaps shut for MOT.

Cheers
John
