Sold my 600 a few months ago to get a bit of savings/no garage/no time to use it and for some reason as we come into winter all I can think about is using my savings to get another bike. Love the idea of a faired 600 (GSXR600 K5 or ZX6R b1h).

Its strange as the weather is terrible and yesterday I passed my car test (wwoooo) but all I can think about it getting back on another bike. I have a RXS100 but its with the GF at the moment as is a laugh but not like a 'real bike'.

Anyone else ever suffered this?

Tis the main reason I wont sell mine at the moment. I'm not using it much because i mostly work from home. When I do need to travel for work its normally smartly dressed which I cant seem to carry off on the bike no matter how hard I try.

I only mostly use it for fun or if im personally going anywhere and dont need the car.

Problem I have though is I know while a lump of cash would be nice I'll be using a bigger lump of cash to buy another one/a bigger one which in the long run will work out much more.

At the moment keeping it seems the sensible thing to do Thumbs Up

As for your situation, dooo ittt!

Instead of spunking all the £ on a sports 600, maybe get a older bike for about a grand and see if that satisfies you. If it doesn't then sell it for what you paid for it then go for the sports.

Defo the same, I sold bikes in summer to save a bit. Few months and I couldn't resist a 00 plate gsxr 6. Got it bargain price coming into winter. Fun enough for me to get my fix. Job done Thumbs Up

I was going to say the same, but more towards a gs500 or cb500 for 500 quid, you won't lose any money, and they are surprisingly good fun.

I don't know if you have changing rooms at work. If not, maybe arrive early and just get changed.

Been commuting for sometime and I can't get away with looking like a biker. It doesn't stop me though.

I thought the GSXR600 was the most coveted sportsbike......by thieves?

Quite like the idea of a fun motocrosser to commute on if only the petrol wasn't so bad....

It's a strange thing on this site Joe, most of the younger members want the latest greatest 'race' bike that costs a fortune.

I've got an old 1996 RRT Fireblade sitting chained up that's only worth about a grand. It'll piss over most 750's and 600's yet is ignored in favour of newer bikes worth four times as much yet no better in the real world.

Sickpup don't go all nostalgic about this site and the youth of today on me will you.
Your statement, if true; I feel would be better applied to all youth of the last 40+ years. Perhaps even forever? maybe not.

And again being a 'general' statement it is also incredibly inaccurate as I am a youth of today and would much prefer a fireblade to a gsxr600.

Thats because the shinier it is the faster it goes!

I would say that most of the younger riders have second hand sub 600cc bikes which cost around £3000. Anyway nothing wrong with wanting the newest bike just like there's nothing wrong with being happy with an older bike.

I have found that the thought of a bike is often better than the reality.

£1000 max on a half decent bike and then see how you go.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

It's a bit different these days to 18 years ago when I started. First the price of bikes has dropped considerably. Back in 1989 new bikes cost pretty much what they do today and insurance for me in 1991 on a 250cc two stroke was £1500 TPO which limited what could be riden by a younster pretty well. Also finance was almost impossible to get unless you owned a house.

As to going nostalgic about the site I don't but the youth of today seem to be quite happy to get in hoc for the latest piece of tat.

I would say it's the opposite, whenever I go to meets it's full of guys in their mid to late 30's with the latest, newest, shiniest sportsbike. Most people I know around my age (early/mid 20s) who ride have 7-10 year old bikes held together with cable ties!

Could have bought something nice and shiny on finance, but thought what would be the point as id only crash or drop it,
Did both so there we go, old bikes are better

Yep I'm twenty and my bikes 9 year old. I would much rather have something older than me than a shiny midlife crisis bike.

To be fair, one of the main reasons I went from an old 600F to a new 600RR was because it started to suffer from electrical problems (fuses constantly blowing, indis stopping working etc)..

Turned into a nightmare, it was my only form of transport and it was spending ages in garages pissing around with the wiring which was obviously fubared.

Fine if you have the time and space to play around with it, at the time I had neither.

For what I was earning at that time bike finance + insurance = 12% of my takehome pay. It seemed logical to do it to ensure I had something reliable to commute on.
