What do you wear for an office based sales job? Is it a suit jobby? or shirt/tie trousers? or Open collar shirt/jumper and trousers? Any advice is welcome, it isn't a customer facing role.

If its for an interview, suit, collar and tie. (Trousers may be a good idea too), if not, just ask what the dress code is ?

No, had the interview, got the job, i had a Shirt/Tie + Trousers... but was mainly women in there and they had blouses/jumpers... they said it was 'office attire' but trying to find out what that is opens up a broad area... just wondering if someone had any ideas?

Start with what you wore for the interview - it was good enough to get you the job, it's good enough for everyday wear. Then you can get a feel for what other blokes are wearing. You might find something like a polo shirt and chinos are fine; at my last employer jeans and T shirts were ok in the office, with a suit for meetings with the customer. Most people just wore shirt and trousers and kept a tie in the drawer, as in support we might have been called out in the afternoon.

I wear a shirt and trousers, no tie. Seems pretty standard round here, plus I've been here 3 years and haven't been told to change so it must be ok. Laughing

Generally as shaggy says above.
If I wear a jacket (doesn't have to be a suit) it generally gets taken off first thing anyhow.

Once upon a time we wore ties as part of an open plan office where anyone could walk through. Guess it was seen as part of the 'uniform'. Now in our own area the ties have been ditched (except as said for meetings with superiors/customer/external suppliers).

I'd just make sure it's all smart, ironed shirt, belt and shoes match and all that.

I suppose it depends on the type of environment the office is in.

I work in a workshop but the production office seems to be 'smart casual'. Basically don't turn up in trackies and trainers but shoes (safety shoes aswell), trousers/jeans and a nice looking t-shirt and jumper or a shirt.

Although the design office, sales + marketing and accounts etc all seem to wear shirts/t-shirts with our company logo on. Bastards don't give us any. We just got tacky t-shirts that were left over when we changed our name Laughing

I admit that I hate my office wearing, cause I must wear suit!
Damn tie, damn jacket!

Most of the days I commute by my bike and so that carrying a backpack for the suit. Sweating too much along the way!

Just go in wearing a shirt and trousers, its not like they are going to sack you for wearing the wrong clothes! Confused

No sports wear, no slogans, no hoodies.

As a general rule of thumb, wear similar to what you did in the interview, and then see what the others are wearing, and dress accordingly...ie. remove tie if its acceptable not to wear one.

You'll be like the new boy at school, shirt tucked in, trousers upto your tits, tie down to your knees Laughing

As others have said, it seems your best bet would be to wear what you did to the interview.

If you wore a suit, take your suit jacket with you just incase everybody else is wearing one.

Why don't you keep your suits at work? That's what I do; my work suits and a selection of shoes live at the office, so I don't have to carry them with me.
