They seem to neglect the fact that possibly people are fed up of ebay?

I have not sold anything on there out of sheer protest for a good 6 months. I have sold stuff I would have sold on ebay by advertising the traditional way. I have got more money for stuff, with maybe a slight delay in getting stuff sold.

I hope they continue to lose money long into the future. If there is one company in the world that I view with complete and utter contempt, it would be eBay/PayPal.

I wondered a while ago whether they were taking much these days.

I used to buy and sell loads on there, nowadays I buy the odd thing occasionally but eBay is usually far down the list of places to check - overpriced (due to fee squeezing by ebay) and, well, a bit crap these days.

Selling, haven't used it for ages. Used to list odd bits of crap at £5/£10 Buy It Now, not worth it now due to actually only seeing about 30%* of that - that's if your lucky and the buyer isn't a twat, not leaving pos feedback so you can't get your money!

*Figure completely made up, but you know what I mean.

Buying stuff off ebay? I haven't done that for eons, Amazon is so much better, both for brand new and used items.

Hi

Suspect you are not alone.

I do spend less on Ebay than I used to. Part of that is the difficulty of finding anything useful amoung the garbage for sale (search for bike bits and half the bits returned are magazines with articles on that bike).

Paypal was useful, but the cost seems to have gone up (or at least that is my perception). And while I might find it convenient the way it now seems to be pushed is a bit objectionable.

All the best

Keith

Depends, things like a data cable and a wrist support were cheapest on eBay, therefore I bought from there.

I've been on ebay for 7 years now with ~370 feedback. I've sold lot's of shit and bought lot's of shit. It is, however, too expensive now.

So I'm closing my account as soon as their '180 day account clearance' rule has passed by.

Not used in a long time to sell, too expensive. I have bought small thing £2-£5 but not often.

All the fees involved are too much and it is so much hassle. I don't mind paying an extra few quid to buy off a proper website that takes cards.

Hi

Other than Amazon, are there any currently any viable alternatives to Ebay? Seen the odd one mentioned and know there are a fair few minor ones (there is some shareware auction software you can implement yourself), but not noticed anything that is a real alternative.

All the best

I buy things wherever they are cheapest and i'm confident I'll get a legitimate product, not a ripoff or fake which is where ebay is bad, especially with electronics like memory cards. I also won't buy expensive items off ebay as you've got sod all protection, nor will I sell particularly expensive items that could attract scammers.

I haven't actually used it since July, the fees are absurd and just keep going up, they're making it impossible to blacklist scammers and thieves and are just continually altering the way it works to screw the victims. I've said for ages they should be regulated in some way because they've become so big and are now abusing their position, I just wish Google would do something to take them on, they're the ideal company.

Ebay's become little more than another online store, and the majority of the stuff on it is more expensive than elsewhere. I haven't sold anything on it for about two years and can't see myself doing so ever again, the triple-fee scam gets too far up my nose.

The day it dies I'll be dancing, it's owned and run by parasitic scum.

eBay/paypal suck balls.

If you use it, it's like going on holiday to a country with really shit rules pertaining to the sale and purchase of goods. When you think about it, if the same rules eBay use were enforced any where else, you wouldn't dream of using it to buy and sell.

A lesson in humility would do the company a world of good and might keep them in business if adopted.

Thumbs Up

To be honest, just are just shooting themselves in foot. They have given buyers far too much power in disputes, yet they forget their customers are sellers aka HUMAN BEINGS, so they don't become faceless corporations and need to be able to leave feedback to buyers as well. To then take 10% of the final price that they have sold is just a clear pisstake.

Yup, I hate the fact its such a buyers side.
Sellers don't have a leg to stand on.
I use it far less than I did, prefer Amazon.

But did sell a pair of sons jeans for £23 used having bought them for £12 new, so on occasions its worth it.

A mate of mine has quit her sales job to do full time Ebay sales . . . . crazy lady, good luck to her selling shite, but I'd not do it!

I reckon you need a new keyboard from ebay. The s,c,u,m keys as well as the f,v,k must be pretty much blank by now. Very Happy Very Happy

I still buy from ebay, no good for selling though. But as said, there's no real alternative.

The only worn keys I have are the E, R, A, S, O...hang on, there's more than I thought...T, U, I, N, H...that's it.. The V is pristine, the F is nearly mint, the M is pristine. K is pristine. Weird, eh? Must be an angles thang.

Good.

I don't sell on there anymore, as said triple fees suck. Also don't buy very often. Too much hassle. Tempted to close my account, but it proves to be useful now and again.
