Hey,
In the early part of next year i will need to send my licence into the DVLA in order to have my photo updated.

After reading all the horror stories of licences coming back minus entitlements i was wondering what i could do to prove i have the licence and entitlements?

Is it a case of going to a solicitor and getting a legal copy (If theirs such a thing)?

I'm just asking in preparation as i would hate to loose my entitlements and have to redo my tests again!!!

Cheers,
Shaun.

Hi

Might be best to "lose" your licence and just get a duplicate.

All the best

Don't send your license to them.

I have a growing collection of licenses that I've sent to the DVLA, each time they've got lost in the post. Wink

Ive got to do that next year Sad

You could always photocopy the paper part, that has all your entitlements written on it. I think. As for the plastic part, you can't really copy it. Film yourself turning it over so you can get both front and back?

Hey,
Cheers for the ideas!

I would have never thought of the 'getting lost in the post' idea. I shall be using this one. I guess they can't argue when i have an original licence showing my entitlements!!!

Karma all round.

Shaun.

The DVLA will not accept a photocopy as evidence. You'd need to have a certified copy, endorsed by an upstanding member of society stating:

"I hereby confirm this copy is a true likeness of the original" then their signature, name, date, address and position.

Or like they said. "lose" it.

I think that you may all be over-reacting slightly. Wasn't it during a transitional period some years ago when a handful of people lost some of their entitlements? I say a handful because lets not forget how a few cases got highlighted and then sensationalised by the media.

It doesn't worry me at all and the only precaution I take is to keep a photocopy of both my licence photocard and paper counterpart, something that I have to hand anyway as I take my bike abroad most years.

I don't trust the DVLA at all. I lost my licence shortly before renewing the photo. Found it again soon after the new one arrived funnily enough Very Happy

Someone posted on here earlier in the week asking for advice because the DVLA had lost her car entitlement and revoked her bike entitlement saying she'd been banned sometime in the 70's (not to her knowledge) when she applied for a photocard licence. She was facing having to do both tests again.

Given their inability to spell my surname correctly for a 12 year period (6 seperate licences, application form correctly spelled with additional ID and all accompanied by a note pointing out the error) and their inability to change the colour of one of my bikes from black to green (I've written three times now, if they want it to be black that much, what do I care). I wouldn't trust them to find their own arse with both hands and a flashlight

Took them 3 attempts to get the spelling of the address righton Charlottes licence when we moved here.

They would probably decide the correct procedure was to smash the torch up, swallow the remains and then stand in a dark room waiting for a light to appear.

All the best

Then when someone suggests that their arse might be located at the top of their legs and shows them a photo to prove it they'd loose the photo in the internal post, then stand with their backs to the wall loudly denying there is any such thing as an arse.

Don't send those two-faced extorting-whore scumbags jack shit. As said above, you lost your licence. If they send you the new one with missing entitlements you can take that piece of gold you kept back and shove it up their "We never make that kind of mistake" fvcking ass in court and in the media.

It does'nt matter if you keep your original or if you have a photocopy they wont accept it

if they say you aint got a bike licence its because its not on their records so the only thing they will accept is your original pass cert , witch you might not have because you sent it off when you first passed your test

this was watchdog last year all about it even a police worker had to redo his test
if you watch the second bit you will see a woman who still has her original licence and that still aint good enough , they still say she aint passed her test Shocked

as i said the only way they will admit they have cocked up and give you your licence back is if you have your pass certificate

I scanned my pass certificate into the PC when I got it. Probably not good enough to DVLA, who know that the pass certificate is posted to them and not returned.

It is a big cover up of the massive internal failings of DVLA. To say ''produce a pass certificate or go do one'' is basically stupid.

My license needs renewing next year. Going to take it to a solicitors and get them to take legal, law abiding photographs of it, my photo's and a written letter stating the legal business if they fail to keep the current categories.

A copy of this letter will be sent with the application.

Thinking of doing that too.

Though, in theory they must have a record of what I should have because I updated it in 2007 when I passed my bike test. Car one was Jan 98.

Bet it doesn't work like that though..... Laughing Evil or Very Mad

I was thinking that the people who may be loosing categories are those that passed long before photocard licenses came in. Luckily, I had my wallet stolen with my paper license in, back in 2000. Had to apply for a photocard license. You would think and expect that their file of me and anyone else with an existing photocard would be safe from errors. It's basic requirements for crying out loud!!!!!!

On a different note, is there a set time frame for one to update the photo's? I have an idea of doing it in January so it gives me 6 months before my current one expires should anything disappear.

I was told to send my pass certificate and licence to DVLA when i passed my test in June, I recieved my licence back with no bike entitlement..called up, said they havent recieved it...LOL WUT?
Same envelope...recorded mail...how the HELL can you say it wasnt there?
Was in 2 minds about riding without L plates just incase, but i KNOW ive passed my test and just sent licence photocopies to insurers...and ive not had any trouble since.

There is definately no bike category on there...thing is the examiner and my riding instructor is my best friends dad...so he could probably "find" my pass certificate again.

Get it sorted soon while you can. And keep good records of your proof which can then help someone else in court claiming off the DVLA.

All the best

You can ask to keep it to send off yourself. So yes, you can "lose" it.

When I passed my car test I got a copy of the marksheet that was used with the number of minors and the examiners signature saying that I passed. Do you get anything like that when you pass your bike test?

I love how the DVLA say that they are never wrong when clearly they can screw up royally. Although both my parents have just renewed their licenses and had no problems.

Yeah you do get a copy of the marksheet so surely thats evidence that you have done the test and passed?
