Don't send your license to them.
I have a growing collection of licenses that I've sent to the DVLA, each time they've got lost in the post. |

Ive got to do that next year
You could always photocopy the paper part, that has all your entitlements written on it. I think. As for the plastic part, you can't really copy it. Film yourself turning it over so you can get both front and back? |

Hey,
Cheers for the ideas!
I would have never thought of the 'getting lost in the post' idea. I shall be using this one. I guess they can't argue when i have an original licence showing my entitlements!!!
all round.

just did my 10 year photo renewal thingy. got my new licence back today.
all entitlements present and correct.
tbh its just mcn scaremongering saying loads of licences are coming back missing sections.. its probably a very small amount of people thats actually happened to.
but.. just to be safe i ticked the 'its been defaced' box and kept my old one ____________________ CBR954RR - Daily toy

The DVLA will not accept a photocopy as evidence. You'd need to have a certified copy, endorsed by an upstanding member of society stating:
"I hereby confirm this copy is a true likeness of the original" then their signature, name, date, address and position.
Or like they said. "lose" it. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I don't trust the DVLA at all. I lost my licence shortly before renewing the photo. Found it again soon after the new one arrived funnily enough |

It does'nt matter if you keep your original or if you have a photocopy they wont accept it
if they say you aint got a bike licence its because its not on their records so the only thing they will accept is your original pass cert , witch you might not have because you sent it off when you first passed your test
this was watchdog last year all about it even a police worker had to redo his test
if you watch the second bit you will see a woman who still has her original licence and that still aint good enough , they still say she aint passed her test
as i said the only way they will admit they have cocked up and give you your licence back is if you have your pass certificate

Thinking of doing that too.
Though, in theory they must have a record of what I should have because I updated it in 2007 when I passed my bike test. Car one was Jan 98.
Bet it doesn't work like that though.....
I was thinking that the people who may be loosing categories are those that passed long before photocard licenses came in. Luckily, I had my wallet stolen with my paper license in, back in 2000. Had to apply for a photocard license. You would think and expect that their file of me and anyone else with an existing photocard would be safe from errors. It's basic requirements for crying out loud!!!!!!
On a different note, is there a set time frame for one to update the photo's? I have an idea of doing it in January so it gives me 6 months before my current one expires should anything disappear. |
