To be more accurate, should i plum for a Honda Bros 400/650(i likey) or should i get something more upto date. The fact is i have a grand to get a bike.
I only want a naked.

Or a poor mans Duke, a Yamaha TRX? A little thin on the ground but well within the £1000 limit.

I never thought I'd see the day when you'd be looking at a different bike HT. What are you planning to do with the CB? Keeping it I hope.

Yes, i suffer from *GAS, so the 250 will be
overhauled and semi-retired. I need something with more torque.

Interested in those yammy TRX's and will google later.

Since you appreciate the CB250RS, I think you'd get on well with a CB500.

The TRX is not pillion friendly. And again just out of pocket range.
I'm not considering damaged/repairables. I want to ride this from the off.

I agree with the CB500, not that I've ever ridden one. For some reason though, I really want one.

Off to eBay I go...

You might be able to find an M600 for just over your limit. As long as it's been serviced and the belts done it should be fine. There's someone just recently decided to overhaul his Monster after he'd done 100k on it from new Shocked

If not then I agree with the others with the CB500, it should be like yours but with more power. Although I've never ridden either Laughing

EDIT: With quick search there's a couple of M600's for £1400 at the dealers Wink

Another for the CB500 here. I rode one for my DAS and it really was a lovely relaxed bike. I would definitely have one.

There are a couple on autotrader for 850 and 900.

ER-5s are good but the finish is a bit poor. GPZ 500S is a great bike with good fuel ecomomy and tank range, much comfier at speed and seems to have a better finish than the ER-5 if looked after well. Both can be had in your price range. I will say the riding position of the ER-5 is a bit easier in town so if you don't go that far it could be a better option.

Why do you specifically want something you can ride straight away out of interest, Terror? As I see it you are in a good position to buy a bike that needs a bit of work and get a potential bargain (ie you have a decent bike to ride in the meantime whilst you are getting it done).

My current bike is a commuter bike, so i don't fancy a bigger version. The Honda Bros have a look i like and offer abit of character, the M600s look abit girly but should be easy to get on with.
Abit fed up of sellers not updating their now sold bike.
I'm an impatient sod, and this money is burning a hole, i don't want to dib in it esp with christmas approaching. 42 and my daughter has better money skills Smile
[Edit] I'm doing longer and longer rides and my 30yr bike doesn't deserve another winter. TBO i want a new bike and i want it now.

600 monsters are slow as shit and if you get one for a grand it will not be in the best condition. I'd avoid.

I despatched a Bros 400 for about a year and absolutely loved it Very Happy

It was probably the fastest day-in-day -out bike I rode in five years on plot. There tiny -superb in tight traffic and a blast flat out.

One of the most memorable rides of my life was 5mins or so from Victoria RedStar, which was closed, to KingsX RedStar flat out racing another courier on another Bros-peg down round Marble arch Very Happy

From what I remember:

The ones with gold wheels are rumored to be a higher spec.

The fuel range can be 80 miles or 50 if the fuel pump breaks(commonish)

If you are big and have a hippoHorrorPig on the back the helmet holder can cut a groove in the rear tyre.

Mat and Luke Goss are now well past their 15mins of fame so you shouldn't get too many jokes Very Happy

There very quiet-I ran over several pedestrians in that year.

If you want to fit an Africa Twin engine you have to cut and reweld the base of the fuel tank Shocked

I loved mine-but I like lightweight Twins

SV650 seems to make sense. Don't see many reasons going for a Ducati over one, apart from the brand.
TRX850 is also an interesting bike that I quite like.

Friend owned a TRX for a short while... Its a parralel twin, but the way its angled makes it sound and ride like a V-twin... My mate had ART cans on and it sounded brilliant. Very torquey too.

I'm on the bike ladder, not escalator so low powered bikes are fine.. Main fact i want small steps is that my natural character has a tendancy to be abit 'zippy' when it comes to wheels, yet my natural driving/riding ability is average.
A TRX or SV (i guess) would be a nice stepper to something more sports based.
Dunno why, but sportsbikes tick all the boxes in the lust dpt Smile Yet i can't be doing with the riding positions. So i take bits of sportbikes that i like and look for those details on nakeds.
So the top of my ladder at present would be a Triumph Speed/Street Triple and the Ducati Hypermotard/S4r. KTM Superduke. Yep i like aggressive looking bikes. Anyways thats probably irrelevant to my current position Smile
Bros or Monster are my final choices, based purely on looks first, then what they'll offer a newish rider*. Infact i know i'd be happy with any of the bikes you've mentioned as they all have electric start and brakes that work.
Again, thanks for the input folks.

When you stop wanting to own a Ducati Wink.

Have you tried any time riding a sports bike? You might find you get used to the riding position and quite like it.
The SV comes in 'naked' form and the TRX quite possibly has a 'less extreme' riding position than the Bros (on the TRX the seat is quite low with relatively higher bars, especially compared to something like the faired SV).

made me smile that.
Recently only a few short rides on RD350&250 and CBR600. People don't readily offer rides and i'm surprisingly not cheeky enough to ask. But done the usual thing of sitting on/in everything at shows. Rolling Eyes

Whereabouts are you? Someone might know of local dealers that are ok with test rides. Midland Superbikes https://www.midlandsuperbikes.co.uk/ were cool with letting me take a few bikes out to try.
