Take off seat, tank then carbs, take out restrictors, re-fit bits.
That's my how-to Very Happy

You mean this?

- Remove petrol tank and side panels
- Remove air filter from black coloured air box behind carbs by unscrewing cover and withdrawing
- Loosen all clips on rubber connections between air box and carbs
- Lift out tool box tray after removing screw(you'll probably have already done this to take out the airbox)
- Remove any pipe wires in the way, or re-route them out of the way.
- Slide back air box off rubber connectors and remove it from the frame

Two types of restriction:

If restrictions are in rubbber hose connectors air box side of the engine, then just push restrictors out from inside the rubber hose connectors.

If carb side loosen clips on rubber connectors between carbs and engine and side back both carbs together from rubber connectors. Cables do not have to be removed from carbs.Remove rubber connectors and push out restrictor washers

Pretty rough guide to derestricting, I know.

I'd install a isolating valve in the pipe going from the tank to the carbs, should be easier that way if you're going to work on the bike at a later date. Smile

I'll supply photos of me putting my restrictors IN when the time comes....

Hmmm, I could type of the entire contents of the FI International fitting instructions which I got with my restrictor kit and try and pass that off as my own. Thinking Razz

I thought the only way it would possible to use more fuel would be to pump it straight on the floor at the petrol station, but no.

What do the cans look like?? I have Harpoon cans now and they sound mint, I want some shiny ones though

Another thing, what does the restriction affect? Will it take away from acceleration or just top end?

My gpz500s cost £170 for kit and fitting from FI international,
She hits 108mph and flies at 7000rpm plenty fast enough,

once you have that prescious bit of paper to say your bike is restricted you can take the washers out (at the risk of your license if caught) and have a 'restricted' bike like so many people do,

I however have left mine in.. can't be arsed takin washers out.

besides it's so satisfying running rings round other bikes which the owners have had 'restricted'

GPZ's are like this anyway

but to derestrict you will need to remove a little washer located in/near/by the carb.

I'm almost sure my recent gpz was restricted but didn't have an obvious signs of it. It didn't seem to pull as hard as my old one, especially at the 7.5k kick and it struggled to pull much over 100mph.

I've seen restriction by holes in the carb slides and also the usual washers in the inlet. Were there anyother ways it was done?

I thought the Paper certificate that they give you doesnt mean anything in the eyes of the law. At the end of the day, paper or not, if they think it is over 33bph/25kw they will take it off the road and dyno it. Rolling Eyes

Thumbs Down

I sure they would have been interested in that 3 and a half years ago when the thread was last bumped.

Pitty they are all out of their restrictions now.

BUMP! BUMP! BUMP!

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a restriction kit for a 1998 Yamaha xj600 other than from the rip off merchants at FI International.

If anyone has an old one from their bike I would be happy to take it off their hands Razz

According to my RE teacher I think it was Jesus who did most of the resurrecting.

I thought it would be better resurrect an old thread than to saturate the boards with new threads about old topics.

Your post is actually a seperate topic in and of itself. It should have been submitted as such I'm afraid.

Sorry.
