1000cc and a control ECU would be awesome. Back to the tyre smoking days. Cool

What do we think chaps?

Gets my vote! Thumbs Up

The 990's were awesome to watch sliding into, through and out of the corners! Very Happy

I always said that the best way to have slowed Moto gp bikes down, would have been to increase the capacity and minimum weight limits. I could never see the point in the 800cc capacity, as it was always unlikely to slow the bikes down, and it's also a very irrelavent capacity to road going sports bike classifications.

WSB is 1000cc or 1200cc for V-twins so why not have made Moto gp a 1200 or 1250cc class, with a higher weight limit. More power would slow the bikes down, due to the out performance of the available tyres, so although that could be seen as a dangerous thing, the bikes would have to have traction control, power limits, or just be ridded slower to make the tyres cope with the performance.

How many 90's road going 500cc 2 strokes do you see?

Moto GP bikes have never been relevant as far as road bikes go appart from some of the technology trickling down.

True enough for the time but one of the supposed reasons for binning the 250GP class this year is that young riders don't want 250s anymore, they all want 600s

How many 3rd bike buyers want to move up from their r6 on to an 800cc bike? if representing capacities that customers are interested in is now one of the goals, they should be moving the top class back to Litre sized.

the 800GP bikes are ok to watch, and Toby&Julian do a great job trying to commentate it into an exciting race but the fact is that all dropping the engine size has done is make the bikes lighter and easier to ride, meaning that half the field is now underage monkey-looking spanish ex 250 riders.

It's top class motoGP, you shouldn't be able to hear the bike engines in the pit lane over the chorus of 20 pairs of heavy iron balls clanging together as the riders suit up, the mere fact that Dani Pedrosa can not only ride a motoGP bike competitively but actively gains a 10 yard head start over the rest of the field because I have appendages heavier than him confirms that they really need to sort out the class.

I agree. This class should have silly amounts of power Thumbs Up

Remove traction control. That'll sort the men from the boys (and leave Stoner spending most of his weekends in the gravel).

Source?

Two strokes are a dieing breed and it's a natural progression. Honda had already announced that it was ceasing production of 250 engines. It won't be a huge number of years before 125s follow suit and it has nothing to do with what kids want.

It's not one of the goals. The goal was to bring down the top speed, the problem being they actually increased corner speed - which is where most accidents happen.

MotoGP, and it supporting classes, have no grounding in road bikes - that's what Superbikes are for. The FIM has no interest in running the series to produce road going models.

Yeah I'd like to see less electronic interference, but this is the prototype class, it has lead to the trickle down effect of technology such as the traction control systems that we are seeing coming out on street bikes now, most notably on the Ducati 1198s/1098r. So to stop the development of the electronic side would be stopping the spirit of the class.
They should just leave it to evolve as unhindered as is safely possible while still making sure it is all kept within the spirit of the sport and financially sound.

I just wish they would make up their bloody minds and stay with it.

Whilst I do agree it makes sense to to align the capacities with public available bikes, I'm really don't give a rats ass because I'm not going to buy my next bike based on what is at the head of the pack in the GP. I ride a kawasaki for fuck sake Smile

With the current stock of 800s we're talking a bike which weighs about 150kg and has over 200bhp. It's not like they can't do anything a thou bike can do.

I just think it's already ridiculously expensive as it is and to make a complete change yet again must put some huge pressure on those who are struggling to stay in the game as it is.

Either way I will still be watchin it when it's on

Thumbs Up

If you listen to the commentry, Stoner doesn't use the electrickery as much as the majority of the grid. I think Stoners tallent will show even more if you take away the electrics and rely on rider skill.

Bring back the 990's and remove all electronic aids! Thumbs Up

That was an exercise in marketing from Ducati, little else. Hands up who can afford one, even if you can find one (only 1500 made) Laughing

Apparently Stoner uses lots of electronics, however, not to say he can't ride. He's very good at getting the best out of electronics:

The problem is if you have so many electronics that it's boring to watch. Like F1, and a few of the 800cc moto gp races, you'll have fewer people watching, and buying tickets. That in turn will mean fewer sponsors, so fewer people will be able to afford to race.

Yes racing improves the breed, but you still need bums on seats in order for it to be profitable, and I think that some people are starting to lose sight of this and simply want to be an F1 style technical show case/procession.

IMO, make them 990s again, and give them a control ECU that allows them 3 fuel maps to program and that's your lot.

I'm not too up on the tech stuff, but what ways would be better to slow down the 100cc bikes? Perhaps wheel size, make them smaller or larger depending which works, Ride height of the bike, yolk/tank/seat has to be xxmm from the ground, size of brake disc, smaller disc have to start slowing earlier, as well as electronics being controlled.

It's last season not ten years ago! Rolling Eyes It was one of the first articles to come up in Google (i.e. it was not difficult to find something where two respected riders, Rossi and Melandri were commenting how much electronics he uses).

That pic of Casey Stoner is fantastic.
I was looking forward to 20 odd laps of that..shame he dropped a bollock.
Interesting to hear Leon Camier say that electronic aids are hardly used by Casey and himself, and judging by the shapes the bikes made this season i believe them.
And what about Ben Spies..Hero or what?
As for whether i want 1000cc bikes, not arsed.
A bigger grid would be good. Then hopefully a few more riders rising to the challenge of Pedrosa,Rossi,Stoner and Lorenzo. Cos lets face it nobody else consistently touches them.
I'll be looking for the testlap times next week.
Also the 600's in Moto2 sound good. Never understood why they've held onto 250 2 strokes for so long. Always breaking down mid-race.

Roll on 2010
