Dear bike chat forums

I haath returned...

Unfortunately all is not good news, the XT600E

I have reported this to the police and have been given a crime number and also spent the last hour cruising around on my CBR in an attempt to find it.

reg plate is P79 WYG , has 29000 miles or there abouts on it big ass acerbis tank, no rear foot pegs, no tax disc , asymetric read indicators, a big scratch on the left side and a blood stain on the right hand side also (its mine).

Please will local folks keep an eye out for it as it has significant sentimental value.Bike looks like this

Except it hasn't got the yellow tube breather it is missing a mirror and it is generally a hell of a lot more ratty.

I apologise in advance for not keeping ontop of the blog as I decided to stick around in China for a bit and was thus behind the great firewall. blogger is banned in China, and some smarty pants stuck Tianamen square on one of the treads.

Ridiculously, for someone that I've never met, I'm glad you've arrived back in one piece - was enjoying your blog before it disappeared and was very envious of your journey....I hope to do the same journey when circumstances allow Very Happy

Sucks about the bike - my guess is it won't be far away. It's worth nothing except to you, and has hopefully been taken for a little spin, then dumped by the local scrotes.

Hope you get it back Thumbs Up

Question is what do I do now? , I've reported it obviously about 15 minutes after the event, spent hours going up and down dark alley ways and looking in nearby hedges and parks and looked around nearby industrial estates. Asking people all around and checking CCTV cameras in pubs.

I suspect it was lifted away in the back of a van or something as they were incredibly quick, the XT is pretty heavy and there was a lock on the front wheel, and nobody saw anything on the main road to which this side road emerges into (its a cul de sac).

Do I inform the DVLA or give it a few days for the police to do something then inform them? do I cash in the tax disc? , do I de-insure it? (its TPO).

Its not the money, its the principle AND the fact that the bike has sentimental value to me from taking me on a big adventure.

Erm additionally, is there any liability for the condition of the bike?

ie lets say a scrote has a ride but because of damage caused by me from riding it , the bike is essentially a death trap.

What happens here, it would be a mighty kick in the teeth to be sued by a theif.

i have every intension of doing soemthing similar myself, disconnect the brakes. Fuck it if i got taken to court, it'd be well worth it to see a bike theif in plaster.

And i expect the vast majority of courts would allow the excuse "I'd been doing some maintenance during the day and hadnt finished up yet, its just unfortunate he stole the bike when he did else he'd have had braided lines too!"

I hope that the bike turns back!
So sorry to hear that it's nicked.
Mostly the thieves use a van to hide the bike and leave the area faster.

I'm afraid its bad news.

I had hoped that some chavs took it and then would have abandoned it but a bloke who lives a few doors down saw a big yellow van pull up and the XT get thrown into the back, he didn't think much of it and therefore didn't get the plate.

I've called most of the schools around this area, I'm going to call the breakers tommorow when most of them open in a 30 mile radius, problem is the cop handling my case has gone off on holiday for a week, I reckon if he got a move on he could have a look at the CCTV footage get a number plate and find the person who owns the van and then find the person who took it easily but I am not hopeful.

Scum. If I ever caught a thieving sack of shite attempting to nick one of my bikes, I'd take their fucking fingers off with a pair of bolt cutters.

Makes you wonder how many bikes were in the back of said van.

Your camera wasn't on the bike was it?

Just been interviewed by the local news papers about it.

Though I don't hold out a massive amount of hope, it should get some sort of publicity about this.
