Selling a non-running bike on ebay!

Listed a highly detailed description of the bike and its faults complete with an extensive array of photographs, leaving the bidder in no doubt what they were buying. Ten people bid on it, more than 100 people watched it, two came to see it before bidding.

The highest bidder won, payed the money and picked up the bike. He was very happy with his purchase. We each left one another positive feedback.

That is all. I did not get involved in haggling, personal insults or thinly veiled threats of physicval violence.

Can't you spice it up even a little bit? Did any of the bidders post any spilleng mistakes? Did any of the people who came to look have any physical defects? Did they take 20-30 seconds longer to pay than you thought they should?

I think that a detailed advert saves the majority of Ebay issues, no ambiguity, no contention. I did the same with my mountain bike, including requesting that the buyer pays within a few days of auction end. The winner came and met me at Fleet services (roughly halfway) with cash and was a really nice bloke.

I sold some motorola two way radios on eBay to a chap down south, we met half way at some services, he paid cash on the nose as requested, no haggling or hesitation.

He was a thoroughly decent chap.

We married six weeks later and have been happy ever since.

Stink's approach is referred to as anti-selling.

Listing a bikes faults rather than selling its good points.

A mate of mine picked up a bargain this way. From the description it was fit for the scrap heap, but actually it was in pretty good condition for a bike of its age, and needed nothing doing to it, the description meant it went for a lot less than it was worth. When similar worse ones that had been talked up, had gone for almost twice the price.

In my experience, they ignore the faults, see look at the only picture of the ten taken from an ok angle and decide it's the perfect bike that you've obviously listed poorly so haven't got any bids on.
Then they come to see it and moan, or wait until they've got it home and complain even more (though bad ebay feedback is then the worst they can do).
