Errr, just had a scan over that thread where the chain was almost snapped and thought of mine.
I can't actually remember when i bought my D.I.D chain and sprocket kit but its been bloody good and still seems good today, never really needs adjusting.
How many miles should you be looking at before changing one of these??
I think i've done around 7K on this kit.

Hi

15k seems to be about average for me. Sometimes if well looked ater they will last far longer.

All the best

I'm up to 33,000 miles on my DID x-ring chain and it's still in top condition. I'm going to replace the front sprocket though, it's well past it's best.

I seem to be getting similar mileage to when I ran a scottoiler so maybe they don't do as well as I thought. I just drop a bit of car engine oil on the inside run of the x rings every so often when it looks dry. Wet weather means every other day, dry weather it can go a few weeks without re oiling.

It's impossible to say what the life of any chain will be, because how quickly or otherwise it wears will depend on a huge number of factors. The best thing to do is visually inspect the chain when lubing it, and bin it the moment a significant tight spot appears.

Previously I've gotten 15,000 miles from mine, but since fitting the Scottoiler it looks as though I'll get a lot more.

They do tend to seem 'as new' then go very rapidly once they start.

Yep, agree with that.

Just recently changed mine after 31k miles (a clean and re-oil every other week) and the chain went from good condition to being pulled off the rear sprocket in under a week.

Unsure of the age/mileage of my chain. Its got 2 tight spots and can be pulled halfway up the tooth at the rear of the sprocket.
I've had no problems with it and keep it clean, adjusted and lubed. Reckon i should replace? or will it last a few thou more?

It does depend on how you maintain your chain and the way you ride. If you don't oil the chain, leave it slack and are always on the gas the chain won't last long. If you keep the chain oiled, adjusted correctly and are smooth with the throttle then your chain should last.

How often do you check/adjust your chains?

For me it's at least every thousand miles although I glance at my chain quite often to see if it's too loose or dry.

Last chain was from new (bike had 0 miles) and I got to 14k on that, it would have still had a bit more in it to be honest but not huge amounts.

I'd abused that chain a little as well.

Current chain is a gold DID thingy, done near 20,000 miles with chain adjustment only when tyres fitted. Also run a dual injector Scotoilier. I have just replaced the front sprocket as that was gone. Was just a cheap front sprocket, so I will see what the chain does. I think it will be fine, although I think I should expect it to not like it as you are meant to change the sprockets & chains together.

Depends on the bike and how lazy I am. ZZR600 gets lubed pretty much every day it is used (normally a 200 mile round trip). But it has only been adjusted twice in the last year I think.

Bikes without centre stands get abused a bit more.

All the best

Yeah and by quite often clearly I didn't mean so often that I don't overlook it once in a while Rolling Eyes you haven't caught me out with my own words, it just happens that "quite often" is open to interpretation and it's been raining an awful lot recently. No good for chains at all, in the winter I guess I have to check more often.

And that particular time I found rust on my chain it definitely wasn't there three days before which before that was the last time I had properly used my bike.
