A copy and pasted Email a friend sent to me this morning:



The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately
85 mph. The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she
pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the
motorcycle.. The riders reaction time was not sufficient
enough to avoid this accident. The car had two passengers
and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them.
The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact
and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place.
All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were
killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at
the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety
Department..


Pass this on to car drivers or soon to be
new drivers, or new motorcycle owners AND ESPECIALLY EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHO HAS A CELL PHONE!!!!!

On the subject of using cell phones...I dont do it myself but i dont really see a MAJOR problem with receiving/making phone calls whilst driving.Texting`s a different matter....but the only obvious danger of making a call is that you`ve got one hand off the wheel.

If its now illegal to receive/make a phone call whilst driving why haven`t they made satnav,cd/cassette,and touch screen computer systems illegal to use too.Atleast with a phone you`ve got your eyes on the road.....the same cant be said about the others.

I don't use a mobile phone while driving, I can't even use hands free as I find it too distracting. I do use an intercom/radio/satnav on my bike as I don't find it intrusive or distracting.

As I've said about a trillion times before; those photos were MOCKED UP by the SWEDISH police for a road safety campaign at a motorcycle show or something.

There is no smegging way ANY police force would take two vehicles involved in any sort of fatality and display them to the public.

Why on earth do people do these things? Is it just to see their work splashed across the 'net?

If the distraction is caused by the conversation,not just the use of the phone...why havent they banned telephone conversations completely.....

it`s just another case of stupid british legislation imo.
90% of the laws in this country are instigated with good intentions.....but they fail to offer any logic or make any sense

Matters not one bit about hands on the wheel or eyes on the road, this doesn't stop muppets having accidents even when they arent on the phone.

The distraction of a phone conversation is the real problem, I see it every day.

My real complaint is the unwillingness to enforce the fucking law about this. But departments will happily waste hours with coppers sat in camera vans, or pulling commercial vehicles over at mass checkpoints to go over them with a fine tooth comb.

Commercial fines = big money, compared to fines they can impose on the domestic motorist. It's as simple as that.

Penalty for talking on a handheld phone should be instant 1 year ban, wouldn't take many people getting caught and it being documented for people to catch on.

You cant legislate against hands free conversations any more than talking with a passenger, so no attempts should be made in this regard.

I dont have a strong opinion on the whole using phones thing being illegal.
But on a related note a mate of mine (not a mate of a mate...) was stopped in traffic, received a call put phone to his ear 'yep i'll be there' and put it down.
This was seen by a jumped up ACPO who made him pull over (can he just run away, bit confusing what powers they have...I think they can stop vehicles?) The police man was about to let him off (closed ticket pad) and felt his behaviour was quite reasonable (+ he was very apologetic, has a hands free kit said he would use it in future etc) But jumped up retard butts in 'ok butyou still get a ticket' and for some reason mr police officer felt he had to give it, giving a sympathetic and apologetic chuckle...

I see people on a daily basis with a phone stuck to the side of their head whilst driving. Me and Dandit were sat in his car outside of a local pub one evening after work...and in the course of 40 minutes we counted more than 7 people doing just this.

Why the police aren't out there, doing EXACTLY this - instead of hounding down speeders...is beyond me!!!

It couldn't be any easier...sit in your panda car on a busy road between 4.30-7pm, note the registrations, capture on camera - radio it in further down the road. Bobs your uncle...easy revenue.

A ped boy wearing only a tracksuit and his helmet pulled up next to me while we were both filtering around some traffic the other week and his phone went off. He pulled it out of his pocket, put it on speaker phone and shoved it in his helmet next to his face and proceeded to natter away until the traffic started moving again

Not exactly dangerous but I would have said at least you can't accuse bikers of the same until I saw this. For all I know this kid can probably ride around on his twist and go one handed while doing the same.
