 |
|
Hello,
I am just wondering if you could give me some advice on what things to do or avoid when you ride a new bike?
Are there any particular road surfaces to avoid etc until everything beds in? Or is it a case of just going easy?
Thank you |

If it's brand new, I'd give all the nuts and bolts a quick check in case some underpaid spanner monkey only did something up fingertight. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

Brand new bike? Slide it down the road!!!
After doing that you'll be able to ride it without being worried that it might get scratched. |

Well its here!
And it came with a book about how to ride it in properly so thats going to be a handy read.
Its my other half's bike- a 59 suzuki bandit, 1250 sa grand touring in black - very nice bike. Annoying thing is the tax wont be here until tomorrow so can take it on the roads. We have been riding it around our yard this evening, cant wait for the tax to arrive lol
Only negative thing is I am not a good pillion! To the extent that I will take the car when hes using it lol I much prefer being able to put my feet on the ground lol |

Have a search on here for running in. Many things suggest you may well end up with less power and a less reliable bike if you run it in by the manufacturers guidelines. Your choice, but "manufacturer knows best" went out with "your doctor recommends you smoke our cigarettes" . |

Thank you for your replies- will have a look on here
One more thing, 99.9% sure I know the answer but am I right in thinking that you have to actually display the tax disc?
Just wondering because its apparently been submitted to dvla etc the dealers are just waiting for the disc to be sent to them which will be tomorrow.

Technically it's an offence to ride a bike without the tax clearly displayed on the left side of the vehicle. Whether or not you'd actually get done for it depends how big an arsehole you get pulled over by (assuming that happened). I wouldn't ride without it myself, as the old bill now seem to seize on any chance to raise a bit of revenue for the government and make their woeful stats look a bit better. |
They can and do penalise you for not displaying a valid tax disc, it happened to me about 12 months ago. £60 non-endorsable fine.
Ridiculous that in this day in age they can check in seconds that the bike is taxed and then go and fine you because you haven't left the little bit of paper attached to the bike so that some chavvy scumbucket can go and pinch it. The tax was £34 for six months and they fined me £60, 'hearts and minds' is a concept lost on Police orificers .
Enjoy your new bike ClaireBear88. ____________________ Current: ZZR1400

You'd have to get a really arsey police person to do you for not displaying a tax disc - however yellowninja's story shows some are that bad. But then, £60 non endorsable - not that bad compared to what you've paid, or deprecation you're 'paying' etc, so might as well just go for a ride .
However, it may be asking for trouble if it's not on the database and you don't have it with you. |
