Any one here watch the France vs Ireland match last night? Didn't do football much good did it? It does however raise the argument for action replays to be used to help referees again.

There was so much cheating in that match on the French side I think they should be disqualified. Everyone in our pub were cheering the Irish on, they played well and showed tremendous passion in both matches. If English players showed determination like that I'd have high hopes for next year.

So, what about action replays? The annoying thing is, that sometimes video footage is used to penalise individual players after the match (as in Robert Huth of Stoke getting banned for bitchslapping Upson), but a massive decision like being knocked out of the World Cup is made on the pitch by the ref.

Any views on technology in football then?

I would love to see the use of replays to stop the players cheating and play acting.

Maybe Drogba would stay on his feet rather than roll around on the floor like he'd been shot every time some one comes within 10mm of him! Rolling Eyes

Players found to be deliberatly diving / cheating, even after the game has finished should be given a straight red and 3 match ban.

Something also needs to be done about how the players talk to the ref too, like in Rugby. You just dont argue!

Thumbs Up

I was talking to the wife about this last week, it is ridiculous the way they shout/talk/intimidate the ref. FIFA or UEFA need to make a stand and punish the players who abuse the ref during the game, sometimes on every decision. Maybe a 10 minute sin bin is the way to go.

Or rather, when the physio comes on with his magic water, instead of them being allowed to come straight back on, they should be made to wait 5 mins before coming back on! Thumbs Up

I think that retrospective banning for diving or simulation (Drogba would never play) are a good thing but replays just give the referees a safety net that they would abuse, every decision would be a replay and the game would grind to a halt. Wathc rugby, even the most obvious touchdown gets a replay these days, simply because the refs don't want to get it wrong.

Far better to have an extra two 'referee assistants' either side of the goal, as they have already trialled. Most of the penalties and Henry's handball last night are the blind side of the ref, these extra officials would have a perfect view and would have spotted that handball last night and probably Ngog's dive last week.

Cheers

I think there should be a hawk eye type device for goal line decisions and that's it. Ireland were hard done by last night, they have a hard working/good team who deserved to go through based on last nights display.

Being a Chelsea supporter I do get fed up with Drogba's antics but would not swap him for any other striker in the world, when he's in the mood he's unstoppable! But that's the problem, he should be in the mood the whole time!

On another note I don't understand why football is so unpopular on BCF? I love it but will never usually start a thread because I know how unpopular it is. It's not the fact that I don't understand why people on here don't like it, but they seem to feel the need to justify their opinion is some way to football fans.... At the end of the day you don't like football, get over it!

I think the technology should be used so that any player taking a dive and/or rolling around in "agony", only to be found sprinting for all their life's worth 30 seconds later, should (a) not be paid for that match and (b) not play in the next game. Being caught a second time suspends them for the rest of the season, no pay.

That'll focus the overpaid primadonnas.

Don't know about football. But they had the cricket on in the gym and I couldn't figure out why they insisted on playing action replays of the players celebrations when they won a point or a try or whatever it is you get in cricket when you hit the ball...

We had this thread before did we not. Since you bring it up, Wink I don't think anyone has said outright they dislike it in this thread (yet.) It seems to me you're doing the justifying, why so defensive?

Also, I think there is a difference between defending/justifying an opinion and saying "I think something is a bit crap..."

Football bores me to tears.

When forced to watch it, I find myself reduced to teary ennui.

That is all.

They have not, but I would fancy a little more football talk with some fellow bikers but most threads about football/sport get jumped on by the anti sport brigade.

I have no problem with someone thinking it's crap but last time we got a few people who had to justify their dislike for it, rather then just saying it didn't interest them.
