Last night went to mc d's for something to eat after a ride came out some chav was sitting on my bike I shouted at him and he ran off he almost got it started as he took the barrel cover off and was looking for something to turn it with almost lost my classic to the counsil estates of mansfield Embarassed now my barrel is fucked and you can turn it with anything Rolling Eyes is there anyway to make my bike more secure ? accept going to the length of locking it with a chain or d lock?

cheers

You should have crept up to him and whacked him, then razzed off...

i use a d-lock, they are small and better than nothing...I can be asked with the hasle of hauling around a massive heavy chain.

ALWAYS use at least a disc lock..... that being said - my bike got stolen with one on - they just pick the bike up and pop it into the back of a van Confused

If you can chain it to something, it really is the only way - and even then, it may go. If it's only for a short time then a chain and disc lock is enough.

Currently, my baby is sitting with two beasty chains attached to a very solid car port in different manners (which prevent the old "Take a wheel off" trick), my disc lock, all locked behind a 6' fence with two padlocks and two bolts on..... and I'm still nervous and spent all night getting up making sure it was still there.

I at least always take one chain with me to leave on it when I go anywhere, through the wheel/frame and if possible, onto something solid/in the ground.

Agreed, there would be no shouting, just severe violence!!! He would end up in casualty requiring an urgent rectum barrel removal!

I agree with the others, you shouldn't have shouted - just walk up to him and Twated him with you helmet! Evil or Very Mad
As I have said in another thread, make sure you report it to the Police and get a crime number. If they don't know where these things are happening they can't do anything about them.

I agree with the general strategy and sentiment, but I'd wouldn't risk damaging anything as valuable as a helmet on a chav like that. Just push him over and stamp on him in the groin with your boot. Twisted Evil

mt50 yes? small cc trilies are the most stealable bikes arround..

disk lock or a grip lock perhaps? your going to have opertunists more than enything trying to have it away, a quick+easy to deploy lock is best as you will use it more often.

Best vehacle defence is an allarm + big stick Twisted Evil i feel sorry for any poor fool messing with mine Twisted Evil

Disk lock and chain combination should be enough and is certainly a reasonable amount of precaution. However, where do you keep your chain when riding? It's a nuisance. It's a shame that most bikes just aren't designed with even just a small storage space, easily accessible, for this sort of thing.

Wire up a primitive kill switch too? Just a hidden on/off switch in some unusual, concealed place, wired up to the battery.

Wont stop anybody picking the bike up, but atleast they wont be able to ride it off.

If you want to be crafty attatch a magnet to your keyring, and hide a megnetic reed switch in the tank Smile Nobody would EVER find that killswitch.

The MT doesn't have discs , so the disc lock isnt really an option unless you put it on the chain.

The MT has a seperate steering lock, however most are knackered by now.

Either rig a up a kill seperate switch or carry a chain.
