Following on from Raver's post... what would YOU do if you caught someone trying to steal your bike, you actually physically caught up with them...?

I would arrest him. Of course I would only use as much force as was necessary to effect the arrest Wink

The most likey respone (upon seeing some runt haveing a go at my bike) would be similar to Raver, to yell "Get the F@ck of my bike!"

Followed by shock

Followed by anger ('I should have kicked that gots head in')

Followed by a sore wallet

Followed by a large chain object being kept in my bag

Well, before I took up bikes I once caught (sort of) some little scumbag trying to nick the stereo out of my car.

I was just closing the curtains of my front window at dusk when I looked out into the street and saw him breaking the driver's door window of my car.

I ran out and he ran away and jumped into a car that was waiting nearby which sped off.

However, the stupid cnuts were in their own vehicle with the number plate clean and clearly illuminated. I called the police, the chavs were known to them, arrested and convicted. Very Happy

It was quite enlightening when I was giving my witness statement to the police. With it being fairly dark I hadn't got a particularly clear look at the lad that broke the window. So it went something like this:

Dectective: Now I'd like you to describe the person you saw.

Me: Well I really didn't get that good a look at him.

Dectective: Well, would you say that he was about 5'7", slim build with blonde cropped hair...

Wink

If whoever it was wasn’t dead by the time the police arrived he'd be in the hospital for a long time.

I would probably poke them in the eye with a stick. Then handcuff them to a lampost and throw mouldy mushrooms and rice pudding at them. Then call the police.

To be honest I would probably yell at them as soon as I saw them, like Raver did, then I'd either chase after them, or if they looked stronger than me I would check my bike over and tell the Police. I really should get a decent lock for my bike, as its the type that Chavs seem to be taking at the moment. However locally I dont think any bikes havent been nicked this year, I live in a small town of about 5000 people and the kids down here aren't that bad. Mind you Im certain someone tried to rip my ped off, came back one day to find the the barrel end where the keys goes all dented, but the lock still works fine. Il buy a nice big chain and padlock soon!

Well it would depend on what he did! If he turned to confront me, or threaten me then I would use 'reasonable force' to ensure he would be incapable of threatening me further. If he runs, then I'd chase him on the bike and perform a citizen's arrest. Naturally if he resists arrest then the reasonable force rule applies.

What prompted me to do self defence was when a guy tried to break into my house, through the front door by barging it down! I opened the door and the guy came flying through! He got up sharpish and as he ran past me pushed me against the wall. I was shocked, insulted and vowed that no-one would assault me in my own home.

It all depends, if I was at home, I don't think I could stop myself from smashing them with a bar or tool or similar until they stopped moving. Wrong I know, but it's reality. Just how I'd put it right.

Same as me, none of this thinking about the 'reasonable self-defence' crap or how much trouble I’d be getting into.

i'd probably ask them if they were admiring my bike (as if) then ask them if they wanted a shot on the back, take them up to about 70mph and elbow them off the back Razz

It is not worth it. You will end up arrested for ABH or worse and spend time at Her Majesty's pleasure. Given the 'compensation culture' we live in you'd also end up paying the chav for the injuries and all he'd do is spend it on one of those pathetic Burberry hats! Arrest him and if he gets 'bruised' in the process - oh well! Laughing Wink

Beat whoever with my handy rounders bat.... of course in self defence, on account of me feeling very threatened by anyone bigger than me.

Any physical reaction would be minimal, the last thing you're going to be thinking if you see someone having a go at your bike is 'Now where's that Iron bar/I can run fast at him and punch him/I will grab this bastard'

Like everyone else you'll shout something and said yob will leg it, and you're not going to chase him - the next thing you'll do is check you're bike

Wishing you'd battered the bastard always comes after...

I did actually catch someone trying to steal my R6 a while ago. When I say someone it was actually a four blokes in a white transit van outside my work window. Fortunately the lads I work with aren't the usual white shirt and tie brigade you would be expecting in a business park. Two of the lads are 6.4/6.5" and another lad has been teaching Wing Chun for 12 years. Not only did we end up with the bike we also got a transit and one unconscious bike stealing piece of shit.

I really didn't have any time to think about what I was doing after hearing the alarm sound. I found myself running out into the car park, fortunately I also had all the lads running out behind me. It almost seemed like we had it planned, two lads got hold of the driver and got the keys out of the van ignition. Another lad followed me and got hold of the bike and started a tug of war. Once they realised we had their van keys they all started trying to escape. unfortunately for the lad I had managed to get hold of all of his mates left him and ran. After hearing him shout "get the knife and stab them" I sort of lost it. As I said in my police statement "the lad tried to get out the back of the van over the top of the bike, unfortunately he landed heavily on to the tarmac car park". Fortunately the police weren't interested in trying to match my boot prints up the marks on his head.

By the time the police arrived, which was actually within 10 minutes, the whole of the building was out. Blokes from the surrounding buildings were out and had chased after the ones that had managed to get away. It seemed like the whole business park was out on the hunt, so many of them pissed off by car and bike thefts at the park. Funnily enough none of them actually saw anything other than the lad fall into the car park. The police caught the driver after a chase and he attacked one of their officers, so he'd done himself no favours. The copper that took my statement actually said "when we caught him, after we picked him up off the floor, we realized actually how big a bastard he was". Wink

They actually took the case to court and what did the bastards get? 120 hours community service. I got a £400 repair bill for the damage to my tank and a newspaper clipping! I may also have got £400 worth of revenge. Twisted Evil

I'm afraid not. If I caught them in the act, I know full well the bike won't run away, but the guy would.

Actually no, I’d grab one of the many knives around my room and go stab him.

No doubt about it, anyone breaks into my house or try's to steal my bike I would. Same if anyone did anything to my kids.
