I know this kind of question gets asked alot, but basically i was thinking of future winter projects and or bikes i have wanted to build for a while. I'm keeping it fairly realistic, so nothing that i could not realistically see myself affording, Honda CBX1000's are out for a start!

For me i've still got a KMX200 supermoto to build that's been in my head for 4years! Embarassed

But after that i'd like:

1, Kawasaki AR125 project, would like to see how fast i could get the little light weight disc valve wonder to go.

2, I've wanted to do something like a TZR125L re-build, but with either a KLR250 engine or an XT350 lump fitted. I think it would make a nice road bike.

3, Wouldn't mind another KMX maybe a 125cc for an off road project, as i probably have enough bits to half build one already, once the best bits have gone into my 200.

4, Think my next realistic big street bike will be something like a cheap used Z1000 or Hornet 900, and i'd like to build the ultimate big bore scary version of either bike, with massive MV style USD front end and lots of custom bits. Wouldn't mind trying to de-tune and insert a ZX12R engine into a Z1000 or similar for more impressive results!

What have you guys got planned in your head or even already laid out in parts or as a complete bike for your next likely projects?

At the moment I have the Honda Chaly which is going slowly Rolling Eyes

In the future I would like another 2 stroke of some kind. I've always fancied putting a DT/TZR 125cc engine in an FS1 frame.

In reality though, I'd need more garage space before doing anything like that.

I'd like to take a Rotax engine from an RSV1000 Mille and make my own frame for it.

I'd also like to make my own frame for my RD350YPVS engine.

Ambitious, but I'd like to see the project thread.

I did want to make a 125cc GP chassis / 300cc enduro engine hybrid, however I really like the character of my 200EXC engine, so I reckon one of those in the 125 chassis. The 200 should be less fickle than the GP engine, but still offer lots of fun, losing out on a little power. With the 300, power would be right up there and it would be very 'usable'.
The old 350cc ktm (no powervale) I had also had a very nice 'revvy' nature and can be picked up for peanuts when they do come up.
Must get the 200EXC road registered sometime whatever - I've got SM wheels that should slot straight in.

A 85cc motocross based supermoto. The big wheel variants of these bikes are quite tall as it is, so fine for an adult. They can weigh about 65kg and pump out up to around 25hp. So the power of a race style 125cc road bike in something getting on for half the weight with sticky road tyres.

A mountain bike with a minimoto engine. Not a mountain bike with a CR85 engine, or worse a heavy 4 stroke, then more weight than the original bike. That's rather a waste of time. So, a light weight 40cc auto making 10hp or so, with little extra weight bar the engine added to a big-hit full suspension frame.
Along those lines, also some kind of electric mountain bike too. Possibly to be made officially road legal for commuting and some dirty fun at the weekends, with a lot less worries about annoying people.

Wouldn't mind having a play with a 350hp+ turbo bike, but plenty of those available to buy, so doesn't seem worth spending the time creating.

There are a lot or records that are up for grabs. I would like to build a bike for a good run on the salt in Utah.

I'd love to make a MZ 750cc triple. Taking 3 MZ 250's and glueing them together to make a bigun. I know it would be about 3 x 21bhp so only 60 or so brake but it would be fun....

I'm sure its doeable as I've seen a mobylette IL4 made from 4 mobys stuck together. I have no idea how it works in practice tho.....

I have an aprilia RS125 rolling chassis which I'm intending to put a rotax 650 engine from the pegaso. It's not an original idea & has been done quite a few times before but for this one I'll be making my own bodywork & fitting lots of trick bits. Thumbs Up

apprilia RS250 with a TL1000S or VTR motor in it would be good for niping to the shops! or a HAYABUSA with a TS50X motor in it

Seeing that so many kids want to have massive-looking small cc bikes, I have in the past wondered if there was some money to be made getting big bikes with broken engines and sticking in a 50/125cc.
Suspect some rich 16 year old would be willing to pay quite a lot so they could turn up to school on a Hayabusa Smile.

So, in effect you want to build a Cagiva River.

Hardly. Besides the river was a twin.

Hi

Nope, the River was a single. A fairly basic frame with fairly hefty forks and the engine from one of Cagiva off road style 4 strokes.

The SZR660 is probably the closest production bike, using the TZR125 rolling chassis and the XTZ660 engine.

All the best

Keith

I've always fancied building a MotoGP replica using a VFR400 chassis with a 750 motor, or maybe even a litre twin.

Also quite fancy building a chopper.

But, I'm still in the middle of changing my ZXR750's front and rear ends. Have a 2008 ZX10 swingarm and wheel in there, and just got hold of a 2005 ZX10 front end. So maybe when i'm done with that I'll move onto another project.

Going to be a busy winter! Laughing

Thumbs Up

A lifetime ago, I was going to bolt a DR600 lump into a KR1S frame.
I got the DR, the engine had under 5k on it, and knew I would be getting the KR1S, from my brother in 6 months time. Very Happy
Only problem was some theivin' cnut relieved me of the DR before the KR1S arrived.
Had a good idea who the theiving b'stard was but could never prove it. Sad

Nothing too ambitious but I'd like to make a CG125 tourer with hard panniers. I'm sure I remember someone on here did a camo coloured one with ammo cases on the back. Just the thing for touring the UK, rallying etc and not spending loads on fuel/tyres and all the rest in the process.

Some really interesting ideas then so far, and some Radical ones too, Mainly G's ones! Laughing

Tbh the 250-300cc 2stroke KTM etc engine, being fitted into a 125cc race bike frame sounds like a great idea, and very useable too. I even think that a it would work just as well in a 125cc sports bike frame, with just a bit more weight and a few % less handling ability. I wonder how close you would be getting to the 500cc MX engine into a Mito style project thinking though, as from what i have heard, big cc single cylinder 2stroke engines haven't worked out too well in such projects or been as good a bike to ride as they should have been. I think the Vibration, torque, and power delivery have been cited as the reasons why these projects are not generally as successful as they were hoped for?

The cobbling together of several engine's into one sounds great, but i did'nt mention my idea for doing so, as it's outside of my scope or ability to build one, and the cost of having someone engineer such a lump and sort out the issues it might have would be too expensive IMO. If i wanted to build a hybrid engined bike, i've always wanted to either make a 400cc TDR250 with DT200R parts, or a 400cc KMX200 by joining cylinders. Either bike would be immense though!

In 2-3years id like to buy or build a big naked street/muscle bike that weights under 180kg dry and has a big torquey 3 or 4cyl engine with 80ibft+. Something with about 70% of the handling of a modern litre sports bike too ideally. Thing is that the cost to build could end up as much as buying a secondhand bike thats just about good enough out of the box.

I think a Benelli TNT1130, MV Brutale 1078, or Triumph Speed3 would be what kind of performance/handling compromise that id be looking to achieve but with less outlay. A 900 Hornet or Z1000 might be a good cheap starting point for a project if the costs could be kept inside what the above bikes go for secondhand in good condition?

I did want to build an 850cc Suzuki GT750 with a GSXR1000 K5 front&back end. (There is someone out there i think making kits to convert the GT with GSXR front&rear running gear already). The cost of restoring a re-building the rest of the bike would probably be too expensive though, and 60-75bhp r/w is considered good for a GT750 engine, so it would never go as well as it handles or sounds.

Im currently (slowly) working on a 'bobbed' cg125.
After this i'll chop something bigger.

But i cant help thinking that i'd love to get my hands on an rvf400 and stick a nice grunty v-twin in it, possibly the sp1 lump.
I reckon it would be mega Thumbs Up

Similar to the TZR125 frame with the CR500 engine that is on YouTube.

Not overly adventurous I know, but I'd like to do an RXS100 café racer. When I was rebuilding mine I did toy with the idea but in the end rebuilt it as standard.

If I were to try it, I'd want to spend a reasonable amount and make it look good, not some half-arsed 'turn the handlebars upside down and call it a café racer' job. I'd want to fit a nice loud spanny and tune the engine, too. Get it as close to 20bhp as possible. Still wouldn't have that much outright speed, but would be fun.

That was my old CG, currently waiting for beatnck2 to finish giving it the bobber treatment.

curent project is make my bike resemble something a bit more healthy, future projects are all a bit hectic and not really settled on anything yet, something bizzare hopefully though.

Cheers
